Tyre Inflators

Offering to check her tyre pressures after work one day was, I am sure, a contributory factor to her eventually asking me out

Always keep a footpump ;)

Wasn't it because you never had the balls to ask her out so she did it instead? think you mentioned that yourself a long time ago :p

I won't bother with any 12v inflator because they're all poorly built regardless of how much they sell for and they last about one year on light use. I had a michelin inflator with digital gauge, it only lasted a year.
:

We had one of the "early" ones (quite large compared to most of them now), which lasted years.
The replacements only lasted about a year or two each before the compressors died :/

We now use the proper compressor in the garage for the tyres, does them in no time at all, and has a nice gauge with a good connection on the inflator (best power tool for the garage ever, everything from airbrush work, to putting things together/taking them apart).
It's just a shame it's not exactly portable :p

I have the one above that model (doesn't have the detachable pressure reader).

It's a lot quicker than a footpump (especially if you have 18" tyres). You just set the pressure and leave it.

To be honest :/

Tesco free one is fine. They wouldn't allow millions of car owners to use an inaccurate guage would they?

I check mine every couple of weeks. The tyres take a lot of hammer with the not-so-forgiving suspension.

Why not pay Kwik Fit to fill you up with nitrogen for an extra 5bhp?

Our local Tesco's just started selling small helium canisters to fill 40 party balloons, think that'd work? :p

I'm not too confident in the free air compressor at the local ASDA and in the past NickXX recommended the "Michelin Hi-Power Tyre Inflator" I think this was the one anyway.

* Superior Performance - inflates a fully deflated car tyre in under 4 minutes
* Patented quiet motor technology
* Back-lit detachable digital gauge, accurate to +/- 1 PSI (up to 50 PSI)
* Integrated super bright LED lights for night use
* Adapters for air-beds/toys, footballs, and Presta valves
* 60cm (approx) high pressure air hose
* 3m (approx) power cord with fused power plug.

It was £50 the one he linked to so at the time I held off but just came across this inflator for £30.

Is this the best one to go for? nick seems to be not logged into IRC at th mo so can't confirm but if anyone else knows a good one in this price range that would be great. Be nice to have a inflator + gauge that's pretty accurate.

Auto Express also have given a high result review of Halfords Mini Rapid inflator with digital gauge which costs £8 less but it butt ugly (though this should not matter :p). AE say the Halfords one is accurate to 0.5PSI.

I have this one. :) It's great, really quick and feels sturdy so if you dropped it ,it wouldn't break. I used to have a Halfords one before but that died.

So far so good with this one, does the job pretty well!

EDIT: Actually the one you have is different... I have this one:-
