Ubisoft FarCry 5 'are you ready' thread just shown up....

Just finished my first region, John Seeds area. I didn't mind the last fight, I had Nick Rye as a partner and he did a decent amount of damage which was handy. Actually having Nick Rye on your side is quite fun as you can get him to bomb targets from the air which is great for road blocks/tankers etc. Overall I like this game a lot, probably my favorite FC so far although Vaas in FC3 was a far more convincing bad guy.
Did Nick Rye do the piloting or the shooting as I found the piloting a real pain?

The game scratches the same itch Skyrim did for me. Eliminating the HUD nonsense is great after I got to terms with having to use the big map.
The exploration and missions here are better than in previous games and the world is gorgeous, I am fairly sure it is my favourite FarCry since FC2.

Things I would like to see improved and added so that FarCry 6 could be my favourite shooter ever:

  • keep all the good stuff from FC5
  • add the stuff that FC2 had (handheld map, weather, attention to small details, gun jamming - to enemies as well…)
  • voiced protagonist (think Shepard from Mass Effect)
  • nonlinear quests with more options to solve them (narratively and gameplay-wise)
  • interactive dialogue (Mass Effect)
Yes, basically I want them to make FPS/RPG full blown hybrid.

It even looks like Skyrim at times

With nothing to do, I just reset the Outposts just now and set Cheeseburger and Nick (with his plane) into a few outposts whilst from a good vantage area I just spotted away. The 'no alarms' and 'undetected' bonus just helps you rake the cash in whilst you sit back.

It would be amazing if Skyrim could be ported to a new engine, especially the awesome VR version

Just got onto faiths region, about 6 half hours in and glad to be taking apart a new region and tbh it feels like a brand new game. No doubt about it these games are good value for money lol.

I have enjoyed playing it but it's becoming a bit tedious although I've avoided going to meet the john Seed as i want to clear the areas side missions/collectables first. After getting the option to buy a helicopter I bought one with rockets etc as the one Adelaide Drubman brings only has miniguns but then it's all too easy to just blast away from above so not so keen now I've got it, also the bullets/rockets don't last long & have to be replenished at $1000 a time even whilst in mid air.

When it says Adelaide Drubman will 'deliver' a helicopter you can't just grapple up & take over so you have mess about trying to make her land & then try & get her to climb out so you can take it over. (unless I'm missing something? :p)
All companions seem to die too easily so you spend time constantly reviving them & feel guilty if you don't
The most useful multi use tool I found is the welding torch, use it to open every safe, instantly burn bees nests in some of the side missions but sadly the perk that lets you auto repair every vehicle is pointless as it won't let you actually drive it whilst it repairs so you have to sit there waiting for it to complete as you would if you held the torch as before you got the perk :(

I found it getting tedious so just finish the region on and move onto a next I found this helped keep my interest in the game plus new surroundings etc. It’s easy to get confined to one region.

Yeah I had my hopes dashed when she appeared to sound very useful but ended up useless. Whilst she's in the chopper you can instruct her to 'move' to a specific spot and she'll land there (the marker changes from moving to landing) but she takes about 5mins to do so! Most of the human npc followers repeat their lines so much that I pushed/barged Hurk off a cliff in anger last night. Cheeseburger I tend to use the most - he doesn't complain, likes pets and just bumbles his way through anything and everything.

That autodrive perk should let you drive/fly and the vehicle auto repairs as you do so? I can certainly take damage in my helicopter from below and then watch as the repair progress bar increases without me stopping to do anything. Same goes for off-road jeeps, I haven't tried cars yet.

What icons/hud items do people have turned on and off? I have a feeling I was a bit trigger happy when I got it and I want to know what people are finding ideal HUD wise.

Also, I have V Sync turned off in the game (as it seemed to hit my benchmark quite hard) but does everyone still have it on by default in there Nvidia/ATI panel respectively? Also does anyone use the frame lock feature? I'm convinced I can make it run just a bit better.

Although it repairs on the move I found that if you try to jump in and drive an already damaged vehicle it won't move till the progress bar is full, I expected to be able to jump in & drive it straight off whilst it repaired when I got the perk
