Ubisoft's New DRM Cracked In Under 25-Hours

Skid Row just gave Ubisoft a sale, no way was i going to buy AC2 with this DRM. Now its removable i've just reconsidered.

Good idea, I've never pirated a game as I do believe in supporting dev.s but my internet connection is too unreliable for this drm. Cheers!

It's not unique. Impulse does the same if you want it to.

true forgot about impulse, got supcom and galciv2 on that.

I quite like that you can run impulse games without impulse being open :p

Means I've added them all to my steam library so never open impulse any more :D

I would want people to buy and play my game. I wouldn't want them to avoid buying the game and feel they have to torrent it or because it won't work if they buy it!

I think he means imagine you where once of the devs that spent years making this DRM system only to have it fail in the first day :D

Yes, be great if everybody had Stardock's attitude to DRM.

I don't run Impulse very often...I could add all my games to it I suppose but I don't see the point.

does the world end if you cant play assasins creed for 20 mins during an outage
just go read a book, or watch tv, or play a different game, or have a shower or go outside !

sounds like pirates using any old excuse to legitimise pirating games as always

What about the people who've never pirated a game? If the game doesn't work for 20 minutes because you're conenction is down for any reason, then the game doesn't work properly.

It's unacceptable that you can't play the game you paid for because Ubisoft are either so out of touch with their customers that they actually think this is a good idea or aren't competent enough to include DRM that 'just works' like other developers, without ruining the end user's experience.

If the game doesn't work all the time then it doesn't work properly. This game should get lower scores in PC reviews for what will for many users, inevitably, be a damaged gameplay experience. It's a shame.

i am no pirate but i hope ubisoft get the message that gamers want to put the disk in any play. not sign up and give out email address and other ****. i am not going to be playing assasins creed 2 or any other game that you have to sign up for.

buy game.. "cack" it.. play it..

The way the world is supposed to work is someone puts something up for sale with whatever conditions they want.

Then the customer thinks either 'I accept I'll have it' or 'I don't accept I won't have it'

THE END

No that is not the end, games are a well-established media now, there are generally accepted standards e.g. when I pay good money for a game, it will work properly (ok apart from Stalker but you know what those crazy russians are like:D).

Not: it will stop working from time-to-time to punish me for something I'm not even doing. This punishment (the game not working every time your internet connection goes down) doesn't even punish the pirates, as they've cracked it, it only punishes paying customers! That's bad for any business.

Does this DRM leave the gameplay experience the same or make it worse? Worse, so it's harming the product.

If it did stop piracy (or even day zero piracy, which they seem to focus a lot on) and then when cracked, they release an offline update for paying customers, then they might think it is in their interests to do this long-term. We'll see.

Ubisofts auhtentication servers failed leaving legitimate purchasers unable to play their games whilst thos who downloaded illegally enjoyed theirs:

Quote from the "press":

Ubisoft customers have complained that the publisher's controversial DRM measures have frozen them out of two major games.

The firm's forum was littered with complaints from gamers who couldn't play legally purchased versions of Assassin's Creed 2 and Silent Hunter V over the weekend - as Ubi's DRM servers went down.

However, it appears those who had obtained a cracked, pirated version of at least one of the games were able to continue playing - causing huge frustration amongst legitimate customers.

Summing up the thoughts of many of his fellow forumites - who posted hundreds of complaints - Sting_09 wrote:

'Yep, only a couple of days into this new DRM, and already, PAYING CUSTOMERS ARE UNABLE TO USE THEIR SOFTWARE.

'I know that there is isn't a cracked version of AC2 right now, but there is for SH5 so please take note Ubi, your loyal customers are now unable to play your game whilst those who have obtained it for FREE are perfectly fine.

'I hope this is what you intended. Way to go!i

Ubisoft community manager 'Ubi Vigil' eventually posted a reply:

'I don't have any clear information on what the issue is since I'm not in the office, but clearly the extended downtime and lengthy login issues are unacceptable, particularly as I've been told these servers are constantly monitored.

'I'll do what I can to get more information on what the issue is here first thing tomorrow and push for a resolution and assurance this won't happen in the future. I realise that's not ideal but there's only so much I can do on a weekend as I'm not directly involved with the server side of this system.'

The only language companies like Ubisoft understand is money. I don't think Ubi care if it gets properly cracked or not. The only way they'll come to their senses is if nobody buys their products...
