Ubuntu 10.04

i tried the beta, didnt have any issues at all in the short time i tried it, and i like the new look its much more cleaner and professional looking, but i wont be installing when it comes out, will just wait for linuxmint 9 which is based on ubuntu but is so much better imo, much more polished and everything works!

I quite often mess around with linux and ubuntu, but always end up going back to windows :( 10.04 looks quite nice though, i'll no doubt install it and see how i get on! :)

Every thing I seem to be doing on linux has some sort of problem. Even installing programs I come up with problems.

Is it just me or is linux a mess?

Trying to install flash and I can't even do that.

robert@robert-desktop:~$ chmod +x libflashplayer.so
robert@robert-desktop:~$ sudo ./libflashplayer.so
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I pasted
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer
into terminal and got this.

"E: Couldn't find package flashplugin64-installer"

?

Then I tried moving "libflashplayer.so" to the mozilla plugin folder and got this

Error moving file: Permission denied

?

I take it that means the installer failed ?

Did you read the destructions from the second link first ?

Sorry I didn't put it in order

Is arch more user friendly than ubuntu? As in easy to install programs.

The only thing that I find really difficult on linux is installing stuff. Why can't it be simple like in windows? why do they have to make it so complicated?

It isn't complicated.

You can point and click
or
use the terminal.

The command NEVER changes.

ie: I bet you can remember the address of where you were born ?
That address may well have been bulldozed but it will still be that address in your head
Same for the command to install

sudo apt-get install * program-name*

Seemples

Have you switched on the Multiverse in Software sources ?

Why is installing something as simple as flash have to be so damn confusing?

I'm assuming you're using Firefox, so if you're not I apologise.

Download the 64-bit Flash plugin from here. Untar it, then create a directory inside ~/.mozilla called plugins. Copy libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins and restart Firefox. Job done.

Yes and no. Arch adheres strictly to KISS principles and there is a lot of work you have to do yourself to get the system up and running. Personally, if I were you, I'd get to grips with Ubuntu first, to make sure you're comfortable.

I will be giving it a try, but I'm holding out till the 15th (~) May when Fedora 13 comes out. I'm using F12 at the moment and its a work of art, very impressed, and F13 is supposed to be a very good upgrade too.

How exactly do I turn on multi-verse?

also, trying to install ps3 media server.

sudo apt-get install PMS.sh
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
