UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 21st October 2021]

The thing is we weren't actually terrible the first half, we created far better chances than they did we just didn't take them. We were good value for the win.
This is part of the problem. The standards at the club are not at the right level. This game was perfectly set for United. An opposition that came to attack and pace a plenty up front from us ready to counter and we almost made a complete arse of it. Scholes is miserable but he is right and most of us know it. I never want the team to lose but I can't see how they compete with anyone that's half decent.

Value of squads compared, United should have been far clear though, look at the mock up Atalanta had in their back 3.

Yes I forgot money wins football matches. Someone should let PSG that they can stop trying because their squad is more expensive.

Atalanta are a very experienced team that have punched above their weight for last few years. They were quarter finalists last year, people are acting like they're fodder.

I would hardly say fodder.

It's quite Naive to big the team up though when they've not got a single first choice centre back on the pitch. Scholes was totally realistic about it though and saw through the result.

The only player that has played more minutes than Palamino this season is their GK. You should let them know he's not first choice. Demiral has also played most of their games. It's not like they were playing kids, most of them are full internationals.

What's your actual view on Ole and his coaching team Shami? I know you defend the team and I get that, but looking at the bigger picture... do you think he can actually get us any further?

On Ole I think he's done a lot of good but can't take us further. I've said that for ages. His coaching team it's impossible to analyse from the outside, we don't get to see training, we don't know who is responsible for what so who may or may not be performing. I think our coaching as a whole leaves a lot to be desired but it's impossible from the outside to say what the problem is there.

People seem to think I'm pro Ole just because I don't think he's the worst manager in the league. I'm not (and haven't been for several seasons) I was desperate for us to go for Poch or Nagelsmann.

Genuine question which managers in the league would be doing worse with that squad in your opinion? Steve Bruce doesn't count as he isn't around anymore.

What makes you think most of them would do better? Most of them have zero experience at big clubs.
Probably because the vast majority that have been at a club for 3 years would have an identifiable way of playing, patterns of play, bought players to play in that system. Admittedly there aren't many managers that have been at clubs for 3+ seasons after year on year mediocrity. There's none of that with Man U, it's just a scatter gun approach. There's a reason fans of every other club in the league want him to remain your manager

Any chance you could let us know which managers would be doing worse than ole?

The only managers who might be worse are: Dyche (although we'd be better defensively), Farke, maybe Dean Smith. I'd probably take any of the others.

Not sure where big club experience comes into it - unless we're calling Molde and Cardiff big clubs?! Being a good player at a big club doesn't make you a good manager at one.

We don't know but a good start is managing to take a squad assembled on a fraction of the amount Ole has spent alone and managing to give them an identity and style on the pitch.

Ole had 0 experience at a big club, an awful PL record and nothing else on his CV to suggest he is a good manager and he still doesn't.

I don't know how many worse managers there are in the PL but I know that we shouldn't even be having a conversation about whether the United manager would get a job at any other team in the PL. Even when Mourinho imploded, no one would suggest that he couldn't walk into 15+ of the teams in the league as their manager. No one would be clamouring for Ole if we sacked him tomorrow.

Taking play styles out if and ignoring how much of a **** house Burnley are I doubt he would have you picking up less points, Smith and farke are both upgrades imo

He did win the championship with a Norwegian side that had never won the league before ever. Regardless of the quality of the league everything is relative.

I do not watch Norwich play but I thought Farke played decent football. It is just that his squad is Championship level and is suicide to play like that with poor players.
