UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th September 2022]

I love Elliott but this experiment with him in midfield has to end today. We cannot continually be this open in midfield and Gomez better get used to being 4th choice again after todays showing.

"How he gets past Gomez there is too easy"... mate, I could get past Gomez, whilst sat in my armchair, with my legs tied, and the armchair nailed down

I don't think we're going to need the goal tally anymore @Tombstone, I think we can safely give it to Haaland. :p

Jokes aside, Liverpool have been woeful tonight. Same errors being repeated every game.

Liverpool have just turned a corner with this squad. I think everything has caught up with them at the same.

Lost a vital player in Mane and not replaced him with the same quality.
VVD looks like a shadow of the player he was.
Liverpool in general seem to have a lethargy about them. They want to attack but not put in the graft defending.
All their players are a little older.
Salah is not scoring goals despite creating chances for others. His goals have been vital for digging Liverpool out of holes in the past.
Perhaps the reality of their current situation is just weighing on them all generally.

Trent isn't ropey, he just needs his centre mid to cover correctly.
Trent's one of the worst defenders I've ever seen play for us. Tactically inept, weak and doesn't bother running back half of the time. It's no wonder he's fourth choice for England.

As a player, he's a world class talent and one that's previously shone as a full back due to the time and space he's had to showcase his passing range and creativity but during times like this, his frailties are far too obvious.

Having said that, if the game plan is for Milner to cover him while he's pushed up as high as Salah, then that's on Klopp, no one else.

Agreed. Long term I just don't think he's solid enough for a back 4, at least without the perfect midfielder ahead of him. Henderson did that job very well for a few seasons. I think we need to try a back 5, or Trent in midfield while we're short on players. I mean, it can't be any worse ...

If that's the plan it's a bad idea and klopp should surely know milner doesn't have half the pace he used to
