UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 9th November 2023]

It wasn't man for man. We played over 60 minutes with ten men. Regardless of the quality of the opposition. Cup competitions are like this. We were totally cruising until Rashford went off. If we lost with 11 men I would agree with you.

But every single game is poor like this. I'm not just blaming ETH, the players are useless as well, there are plenty of question marks over the manager though.

I honestly can't see performances or results changing, we'll lose more than we win. Let's see what happens.

Put everything else to one side, if we don't string a decent run of wins together, he will be out the door, that's just how it goes.

ok, clearly he was just having a 'bit of craic' you've cracked it.
So you tell me why he took him off. And it certainly wasn’t to give him a rest. Aye the lad has run himself silly but there’s only a few minutes left in the game - those few minutes aren’t going to make much difference. The game was 3:3 when he takes him off and puts Mount on, I guess with a view to holding on to the point but it left the team without an ‘out’
If the lads goosed, tell him to stand on the halfway line and just be target for the beleaguered defence to hang the ball towards. Mount has shown nothing thus far in his UTD career to suggest he’s the player to bring on in this sort of situation.

Hate to say it but I think EtH needs to go. Regardless of all our injury issues he simply hasn't got this lot playing with anything approaching a style or shape that is recognisable. I would have expected something by now. I bear him no ill will but at this point I see a bunch of lazy cowards on the pitch doing what they have done for the past X years. Talking a good game but when it comes to walking the walk they are absent.

Too many players that aren't good enough. Too many players that don't care or are on the cusp of being over the hill and here we are.

Biggest issue is who do you replace him with. What was EtH trying to build? Do we continue with it? Do we start from zero again. Its honestly astonishing how consistently awful our players can perform considering their salaries.

I've given you a reason, you've ignored it. And yes Mount is exactly the sort of player you want on with ten men because he works ******* hard. I would have got him on far sooner.

Hold onto him until you get 90% of the first team back, if its still the same, then he isnt right for the job.

Casemiro has been rubbish lately.

Martinez and Shaw would help, I'll give you that.

But the rest of the team is our strongest 11.

We are not putting out some second string team in these games...

It is pointless even talking about getting rid of ETH, who out there is even better? He did his job tonight, he set us up to control the game and we absolutely dominated it. He can't be blamed for not somehow pulling something out with 10 men for over an hour.

That’s the beauty of supporting Man U - there’s always going to be decisions we fans don’t agree on. Fwiw I’ve not ignored your reason I just don’t accept it was the reason he took him off but sure it is what it is. Bring on Galatasary, we’ll spank them and Munich :D

lmao BBC not even hiding their bias. This is their account of the red

But the game turned in the 42nd minute when referee Donatas Rumsas was called to the pitchside monitor to rule on a late tackle by Rashford to the ankle of Elias Jelert and responded by showing the forward a red card.

Tackle :D He had the ball!

Shaw, Varane, Martinez...it's going to make a difference. I don't see how changing ETH when you've got all that 1st team defence out is going to help.

Unless he's lost the dressing room

The results will get better because after the international break. Malacia, Shaw and Diallo should be back. LCB/LB and right wingers are incredibly lacking at the moment.

Diallo had a good loan spell last season and is a left footed right winger which is exactly what ETH wants. He was clearly in ETH plans as he played all pre season till he got injured.

Any calls for his head go a lot deeper than tonight's match though Shami. I'm struggling to think of another game than Palace's reserves in the League Cup where Utd have played well. Even in the games you've won this season, you've been pretty terrible.

Varane came on and was terrible - ETH has seemingly fallen out with him. No way Evans would start ahead of him otherwise.

The games get tougher too.

Exactly. I have watched pretty much all of our games this season and we're as poor as under Rangnick - utterly horrendous. It's inexcusable - I just don't get it.

Yeah it's been poor so far, but there are some pretty huge extenuating circumstances. We've had to deal with more off the field stuff than any manager I've ever seen has had to deal with. And I'll say again, replace him with who? There isn't a single good manager available.

I think the reason is Varane can't play on the left and Maguire has looked better on the right. Varane doesn't look fully fit (neither did AWB tbh, he was running far slower tonight)
