UEFA Champions League 6/7 December *** Spoilers ***

Exactly. How much more do £200k a week players need to gain in experience? When they do gain this experience do they get a pay rise?

Yeah but surely they still need a year or two to gel as a proper tight unit and reach a better level of understanding playing together at the highest level. United had years of getting used to it before they finally took it far enough.

The team has won little so far, perhaps when they have they will be far more confident in each other and get used to winning like united have.

I mean look at how often Arsenal have choked recently when the pressure was really on. I think winning the league would do the city players a world of good.

Quality coverage from ITV as usual, did anyone else notice that when Utd pulled one back near the end the scoreline changed to 3 - 0 to Basel?

On tonight's performance, perhaps we should ask UEFA to extend Rooney's ban to beyond the chance of England reaching the Euro final next year?

As a side note, I just noticed that the top 3 posters in this thread....all support clubs that aren't in the Champions League :p

Edit: Well did before this one, apparently doesn't sort it by alphabetical order :(

A lot of conspiracy theories going around about the Lyon game.

The two disallowed Ajax goals were absolutely absurd. That coupled with the complete collapse in the other game, 7 goals in like 40 minutes wasn't it? Pretty, pretty weird

I had no idea about disallowed goals in the Ajax game. I was talking about the pictures doing the rounds of the Dinamo player giving a friendly wink to the Lyon player shortly after Lyon scored and the general demeanor of both sets of players as the game was unfolding.

Yep, Ajax were the team they overtook to get second and the Ajax game was dodgy, check the goals out, the second one in particular is telling, nobody could think that was offside.

Also, I know 10 vs 11 (even the sending off was strange, so stupid) and with no motivation teams can collapse but the goalkeeper seems to seriously stop trying, even more obviously than Chamakh yesterday. Doubt it's a conspiracy, it's too audacious

Man United finished below Benfica and FC Basel, thats a shock but just above Galitit or what ever they are called.

Benfica and FC Basel power houses of European football.

The reaction I got from the Benfica game 2-2 was "we will beat Basil" not that good anymore, team is changing, season is half over, FA Cup and EPL to win.

Two words

Joe Hart

If that guy can keep fit for 10 years, then City will be unstopabble.

Arsenal Chelsea Man Unite had tin pot keepers compared to Hart

Utter tosh, Hart has made just as many errors this season as any other keeper in the league

Szczesny for one is going to be a much better keeper

Agreed, Cech played an excellent game on Tuesday. He made some really amazing saves

Lol, give over. Neither one will be much better than the other. They'll both be good keepers. You really need to let this thing go about Hart because he rightly didn't let Sky make our FA Cup victory all about you :p

I hope both Manchester clubs are drawn on opposite sides of Europa, would be nice for some home teams to take it seriously. i know no one does, but come the quarters, if Utd and City are still in it with a chance of a Manchester final I'm hoping they both go for it, can only be good for football!

lulz.

We had the Greek champions, the German champions and the French runners up and we still qualified top of our group. Not bad for an apparently crap team. :p

There aren't really many excuses for being put out of the CL, really. We had plenty of chances throughout the stages to get through but chucked each one away.

We have been playing poorly for the majority of the season, it isn't a surprise to have gone out tonight.

It's unfortunate, irritating and disappointing but it has happened before and we have bounced back.

Hopefully this puts the fire back into some of our players, because they've looked lacking for weeks.

I think it's partly due to the fact that the group stage has this year seemingly been taking as a definite that we will get through by our own players which has contributed to our downfall, they haven't been up for it or put in enough effort.
