UEFA Champions League 6/7 December *** Spoilers ***

So we haven't won anything for 6 season (2005 FA Cup Final) yet we should have won the CL in 2006. (and as pointed out above the CC in 2007)

should have? You go spanked.

Midas touch was when Wigan knocked you out of League cup back in 2006

Not won nothing since, Coincidence? ;)

I hope Arsenal do well in CL, rather have them win it than Chelsea

Never want to think there is anything fishy going on, and I would love to believe that Lyon honestly did that all on their own because it was bloody incredible, but they made up a 9 goal swing after Ajax had two perfectly good goals disallowed and they scored 7..

laughs - ok CC 5 years ago, absolutely Well Done!!! Wenger deserves a massive pat on the back!!!

Pretty big upset for Utd to be honest, who would have thought that Man Utd in a group with Benfica, FC Basel and Otelul Galati would fail to qualify but Arsenal in with Marseille, Olympiakos and Dortmund would top their group with a game to spare?

For the neutral it's a shame to see both sides go out, but City at least can kinda go out on a high, Utd were just useless in Europe this year.

Should mean the Europa league is a bit more interesting than normal though!

I would actually likes us to go and win the Europa league just because we've never won it, but tbh it's probably better if we just rest everyone and concentrate elsewhere.

Good old City pulling out the 'learning experience' bull.

Napoli have about as much if not less experience that City in Europe, especially player wise. Man City have bought in a Champions League ready squad... Napoli didnt... and yet in the 'toughest' group ever made, Napoli qualified :D Funny that.

And as for the 10pts.... 3 were a gimme tonight against Bayern 'B', another 3 (or 2 as you would have had a point) were won in the 400th minute of injury time iirc against Villareal at home.. so its not like City were really unlucky.

Arguably one of the biggest failures in terms of Champions League efforts.

I'd play it the same way Spurs' have this year and play the Carling Cup lot. By all means if we get to the Semi Finals then bring in the better players but I'd rather concentrate on the FA Cup than the Europa League

Can you imagine if we still had Ronaldo, Rooney with the Nani of today? That would be ******* unstoppable.

nani is good but he's only looking so good because the rest of your midfield and attack are so cack atm.

you are right when you say ferguson has destroyed berbatov though, it's quite bizarre.

Ignoring the money side of things. Would you say winning the Europa League represented more success than runners-up in the CL?

Obviously everybody wants to be in the CL and stay in it for as long as possible but not just to win it, but also for financial reasons and that making it easier to build long-term success. However from a 1 off season point of view, I'd take winning a trophy over competing in a bigger competition but not winning it.

And in case people misunderstand the question, I'm not saying Utd couldn't/wouldn't have won the CL this year.

That City game has just become even more important for both sides.

This is why I'd prefer both Manchester clubs to still be in it. Your first 11s will be resting while us and Chelsea fly around Europe during the week.

You did it enough and it didn't help you :p

Personally...yes. But it's a view not many would agree with (mostly for the financial reasons) I know it's cool to say its a mickey mouse cup but I just like winning trophies, I don't care if it's the FA Cup or the World Club Cup/, they all feel great to me. Europa League is actually quite an exciting prospect, simply because I've never paid much attention to it so it'll be something a bit different :)
