UEFA Champions League/Europa League 12/13/14 February *** Spoilers ***

Welbeck was good last night, his first touch was actually excellent, he held the ball up well and made some good runs. The goal (while not that difficult) was still a good header and he got himself into a good position for a second chance. He constantly put the ball carrier under pressure as well.

Now the problem is you need to put a performance in week in, week out. Not just in the 'big' game.

I think United and Real will get rolled over when they meet better opposition none of them look like they are good enough to win, think The best United can do is semi/final and i dont really rate Madrid nothing great.

Don't get me wrong hrs a half decent player but he's not of your standard and certainly shouldn't be starting against Madrid in the last 16 of the CL.

Again based on last night yes he should, he completely overshadowed the likes of Rooney and Kagawa

That'll come with age.

I still dont know if long term he has a future with the club but he's got a lot of potential to be a very good player for someone, it's interesting that it's the Newcastle supporter still criticising him after last night because if Welbeck doesn't make it with us long term then it's the likes of Newcastle that he'll be signing for ;)

but rooney outshines welbeck every other time. rooney was doing a thankless task last night. kagawa is a dud.

hoping for a strong line up against lyon later. would like a cb pair of vert and dawson and i'd prefer naughton at rb over walker with BAE at lb.

time to see if bale can produce the goods on a european stage. not sure if holtby is eligable? any spurs fans know....

Whether Rooney is the better player 9 times out of 10 is irrelevant, the point raised was whether or not Welbeck should be starting against Real Madrid, his performance last night showed he had every right to start.

Kagawa is good and quick on the ball but he has no strength. He just gets muscled off it most of the time

Madrid looked dangerous on the attack a few times. Their defence is terrible though. Everytime we countered (which wasnt a lot i know) it looked like we could get through it.

Kagawa was pointless last night, it's not his fault really. He's a player who likes the ball to feet and suits a short passing game. We played hoof ball. We've yet to make any attempt to use his strengths

We need to stop with this getting Rooney to do a job on the wings routine, against the likes of Everton fair enough he can look efficient at doing it but he didn't get near Coentrao & Ronaldo last night. If Fergie wants someone to just do a job out there then stick with Valencia as it's his natural game that way you can put Rooney in his best position instead of Kagawa who played there last night.

As for Kagawa I said it in the summer that he wouldn't be better than Rooney in the number 10 role and as such he would find himself playing from a wider area, problem is he hasn't looked great at doing that either. With every passing game it seems more and more like wrong player, wrong team. I'm sure he'd look a lot more useful at somewhere like Spurs or Arsenal

With a stronger /passing midfield Kagawa should be a gem.

He does need to build his bulk up some however.

Hopefully in the summer a couple more new players in that area will arrive and he should then fit in nicely

Kagawa will come good. He has been injured, and arguably played out of position in his first season in a new league.

People are too quick to write people off, not every player can just adapt over night.
