UEFA Champions League/Europa League 12/13/14 February *** Spoilers ***

Ozil was crap in both halfs, just a bit luckier in the first and more crap in the second, he delayed EVERYTHING he did, every single time. In the first half, maybe shortly before the Real goal, he eventually got past Rafael who was on the floor, had 3-4 yards, looked up, waited, and got tackled, delayed till he lost it, second half he got the ball with Giggs the closest player, at least 10 yards away, and somehow managed to get tackled, he had that run to the middle of the box area from the wing where Utd apparently cleared a nice path for him, and again he delayed and delayed the shot till he lost it.

That was the story of Ozil's game but particularly the second half, he had the ball, he dwelt on it, he lost it.

Ronaldo wasn't particularly marked out of the second half, he was delayed out of it, every run he made, Ozil or someone else waited rather than made the pass, they made it very easy to play against. Real slowed down the tempo, took longer over everything than they needed to, refused to shoot or cross till it was too late. Second half was pretty awful from them in the final third. Why Mourinho took off Di Maria instead of Ozil I could't begin to explain, one of them was decent enough the other was terrible.

RVP, you miss chances, he miskicked it but thats life. His all around play was again brilliant, he got the ball, he turned players, found space, held it up, kept the ball.

Why Giggs didn't shoot first time with that chance I will never know, even worse than Ozil's refusing to do anything, Giggs not shooting was maybe the stupidest thing I've seen on a football pitch in ages.

Oh and the Welbeck scored a header from a corner, something anyone can do... so had an excellent game.... no, he didn't, he really didn't.

It's funny, I knew exactly what this post would say before I read it. :p

Jamie on Sky said it was superb so I just agreed with him :(

On a serious note I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Di maria surprised me, he played great not sure why he was taken off:confused:

The nervous tension/excitement you may have experienced has clouded your vision. The quality of football in the 2nd half was bang average; both sides flooded the midfield and it was really scrappy.

Histon - Liverpool wasn't much better but to their defense, they were playing on a patch of frozen mud.

The Great Dane should be on with Redknapp all the time, he is perfect at shutting him up.

Which is exactly why they rarely have him on :p

Solid result for us tonight I think and in all honesty we could have easily nabbed a winner in the second half. Welbeck actually impressed not just with his goal but he was one of the few Utd players who kept possession well whether forward or back in midfield. The same cannot be said for Rooney or to an extent Jones who defensively was great but lost possession too easily at points and was prone to lobbing it forward when there really wasn't any need. Woulda have preferred a little more composure but I guess he was there to stop Ronaldo as much as possible and in that role he did a pretty decent job, especially at the end  Stand out player for any Utd fan should be De Gea with one truly brilliant save and several key stops keeping us in the tie.

I look forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Old Trafford in 3 weeks time :D

As perhaps Welbecks only fan it was nice to see him have a good game.
It's a good result but I am not convinced our lineup matched the apparent game plan. Would hope to see Nani, Cleverly and Young all start at OT.
The header from Ronaldo was amazing it's true but it was simply shocking from Evra to be so passive. He doesn't have to beat him to the ball to impact his ability to score.

When hasn't De Gea performed well? Couple mistakes and some completely unfounded criticism has churned up a huge **** storm but now the media are using this game as his coming out party, like he's suddenly a class keeper - He always has been.

Breaks and warms the heart at the same time :( Loved the respectful celebration from him tonight.

"Ronaldo is sitting in our dressing room at the moment, talking to the lads. I'm proud to see how he's flourished." - SAF

I want him back. :(
