UEFA Champions League/Europa League 18/19/20 October *** Spoilers ***

I always think there's a danger for Championship sides playing in Europe because they have a minimum of 8 (potentially 11) extra league matches compared to the Premiership presumably with a smaller first team squad, I seem to remember Ipswich really struggled to cope with it.

from BBC

2121: It's 10-a-side at the Britannia, and in slightly comical fashion. Yoav Ziv, the man who has slammed by the Stoke fans for his part in Cameron Jerome's sending off, turns the boos to cheers by receiving marching orders of his own. He is clearly ruffled when Ryan Shotton stands on his foot during a tackle on the touchline and takes his frustration out with an air kick at the linesman, only for his boot to come off and hit the official. The player apologises immediately but the damage is done and it's an early bath for the defender.

Love to see that lol

:D

Also, have Stoke had to widen and lengthen the pitch for Europa league regulations or something, whats with the second set of pitch chalk lines, that have been really badly covered up?

Yup, UEFA rules have a larger minimum pitch size than the FA and our pitch is at the minimum when we play in the prem :p

You can have a smaller pitch then the UEFA requirements if there's no room to expand it iirc, the width at Anfield was always a few CM below the min ;)

Or was it length? anyway :p

Well we might as well not bother with the rest of the season then.

Were you one of the people saying Chelsea had it wrapped up at this point last season by any chance?

No .. do you seriously think anybody will finish above either of the two Manchester teams? Who? Why? If City aren't in the top 2 come christmas they'll spend another £50m to ensure they are, and United have Ferguson so will be in the top 2. If Chelsea win the league then I'm an idiot. I'm not an idiot though. This is premier league football we're talking about, it's quite predictable if you hadn't noticed

The title came right down to the wire last season, this season both Chelsea and City have strengthened while United have lost several experienced players...I can't quite work out how you think it will be so clear cut.

Well..... :p

Jokes aside I cant help but be impressed by Chelsea recently, Mata has been a sensational signing, Meireles is another one and if Torres really is on his way to being back to even 75% of his best then they'll go a long way this season. To think Chelsea haven't even used Lakaku yet this season

Chelsea have been great at times you are totally correct - and they are going to be there or there abouts , but having a potentially great player on the bench counts for nowt if he doesnt fit in the team (remember Veron, for Utd and Chelsea for that matter).

Well we've lost a couple of utility players and scholes who didn't really add a hugely significant amount over the last season or two. the biggest loss was vds really.

But the players we brought in didn't really extend far enough to elevate u, young barely covers valencias drop off in form or ability i can't quite tell which yet. but does add a useful left sidedness to our play, but that only really covers the hole that grew with the aging of a certain Ryan giggs...

Have we strengthened? Barely. have our opponents? Most definitely.

Who's to say Lakaku doesn't fit their team?

If it's so predictable, how come you had Arsenal to finish above both Manchester teams last season?

Other then 1 or two blips, in the PL era the finishing positions have been completely predictable based on wages and transfer fees. So yes, i can't see anyone finishing above United or City.

Young has been largely excellent since his arrival - certainly better that the more negative people predicted.

Giggs had been inconsistant in much of his time as a winger - certainly in terms of crossing.

Its funny suddenly mentioning a drop in in form of a player like Valencia whom many were loathe to give any praise to in the first place!

Phil Jones has already shown more ability that the players who left.

If he have to offset Young against Giggs and/or Valencia then Aguero hasnt strengthened City at all as he is playing instead of their best player last season.
