***UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 1***

Broken legs and serious injuries are never good. Didn't really mind Valencia as a player.

I'm just stunned that after Diaby's tackle on the weekend it wasn't him! I think the late shipment of Dairylea Lunchables has finally been delivered.

Eto'o scored a great goal, I think I read Valencia has dislocated and broken his ankle/leg and it's quite bad.

Messi

Well done to Rangers on their draw. With all the talk of SAF saying that United shouldn't underestimate Rangers, that's exactly what I think he did. This will only boost Ranger's confidence and United will have to do everything they can to secure something on the return fixture at Ibrox.

Park was absolutely woeful tonight. Offered absolutely nothing going down the left side and slowed everything down. He was desperately slow and awkward in everything he did, though that disease seemed to have spread through the entire team...

As soon as the draw was made it was obvious what Rangers game plan was going to be. To leave out pretty much all of the creative talent available to him, Fergie has made a potentially big blunder. We are 5 games into the season, players shouldn't be tired yet! Plus you qualify, THEN rest players.

They should still qualify but they've made it unnecessarily harder harder for themselves.

i don't understand why fergusons sticks with the likes of park, evans, o'shea and a couple of others whos name escape me, if he wants to go head to head with chelsea

Very frustrating game but we see to have a lot of those at OT

Plenty of time to win the group though so not that fussed about the result, more worried about Valencia :( luckily Nani is in good form and was keeping Valencia out of the team anyway. Hope he's not gone for too long though :(

Oh and Gibson was our best player tonight FYI and the only one who ever looked like scoring!

I dont know what incident you are talking about - but Rangers player played the ball with his hand on the floor also, so a Utd pen could have been given also

The ref seemed to be a little pro Rangers in the 1st half also

Smalling catching Broadfoot in the box, would have been soft but I'm sure Man Utd would have wanted it if it was the other way round.

Also, as if that handball was deliberate or enough to constitute a penalty....that would be truely grasping at straws :p

it just says something when you cant beat a scottish team at home really...

i look at what barca did tonight and i think, im glad we arent playing a top tier team like that any time soon:/

on the plus side i have mentioned that gibson is a pretty decent player but instead of adding 1 young player to a good team, he changes too many things at once. its a recipe for distaster i tell ya!

How? All he did was miss the goal a lot and pass sideways. Just like Fletcher he doesn't have a creative bone in his body.

Who was better than Gibson?

Rooney? No
Hernandez? No
Valencia? No
Fletcher? No
Park? No
Fabio? No
Brown? No
Smalling? No

Gibson came close on at least 4 occasions to scoring which is a hell of a lot more than any other player did

But hey Gibson is the modern day Darren Fletcher, might as well be 2004 in this place

Fletcher was better than Gibson.

Gibson had long shots at every chance, a few of them came close but close isn't good enough.

The all conquering Barcelona lost at home to a newly promoted team at the weekend FYI

Oh and last season they lost at home in the champions league to rubin kazan (sp)

S*** happens get over it

On the plus side you're not one of the idiots who's jumping on Gibson's back which is a surprise so props for that

He was pretty much your only goal threat tonight. Came close a few times.

That's not saying a lot though is it, he still didn't get a single shot on target.

Came close to scoring? You mean he came close to getting it on target? Not the same as scoring. I thought Rooney was better, when he dropped deep and got the ball he looked a lot better on it. Gibson was part of the problem, every time the ball came to him or Fletcher our attack just stopped and waited, such a slow pace to them.

No he really wasn't. Name one thing fletch did tonight that was productive whatsoever.....

He was very assertive in midfield, covered a lot of ground, sprayed decent passes around to the wings/forwards and got into the box a few times. Not saying he was 'good' though, but stood out to me as being better than some of the others.

SAF is obviously a legend of the highest order, and I've been an admirer of Man United for a long time.....but I get the feeling it's time for a fresh start now. That team is a shadow of its former glory. I know the treble winning side is impossible to live up to, but I think it's time another manager had a bash at it. No offense to Rangers (they played to their plan) but most Man United teams of the past decade would have picked them apart at will.

If you think Rooney was better then you don't have a clue, Rooney had one of his utterly useless games tonight. He did nothing, barely even registered 1 shot all game

As for Gibson had any of his shots been on target then the keeper wouldn't of been saving them, only a fool would think otherwise
