***UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 1***

Maybe one or perhaps two of them would have gone in, but all of them? Hah.

His first shot that went just wide, his volley straight after half time and his last which bent right at the end. Keeper wouldn't of saved any of them IMO

The only other one I can remember was a tame one that was on target

No offense to Rangers (they played to their plan) but most Man United teams of the past decade would have picked them apart at will.

Shame that wasn't the Man Utd team on show tonight then eh :p

The Bursaspor Goalkeeper looks absolutely shambolic, Valencia scored some decent goals tonight, they looked good, will be interesting in two weeks time over in Spain for Utd.

Hopefully we can get a win at home against the Turks before the Double Header against Valencia.

/sigh

It's games like that which destroy my faith in football as a whole. Rangers were well entitled to play 10-0-0 but i'm not going to commend them for it i'm afraid.

As a fan i'd rather see my team go down 5-0 than go anywhere with a game plan like that.

As for United, well, it's a really sorry state of affairs. Ronaldo was the only consistently world class player we had and he left with no replacement. I think Rooney is world class but only when on form, which seems to be never at the moment.

The all conquering Barcelona lost at home to a newly promoted team at the weekend FYI

Oh and last season they lost at home in the champions league to rubin kazan (sp)

S*** happens get over it

On the plus side you're not one of the idiots who's jumping on Gibson's back which is a surprise so props for that

whilst barca might lose one they will bounce back and trounce someone with a 5-1 scoreline. we hav drawn 3 games in a row. so where barca might lose one and win the next two giving them 6 points, we would draw all 3 and get 3 points. unfortunate but true - our squad players are not as good as, say chelseas for instance.

to the above ronaldo m,ade an average team look great because he could win matches by himself and drag the ball 50 yards at pace at his feet, rather than our current wingers and midfielders who just stop and look bumdfounded as to what to do next. that directness and lets be honest quality and shot that ronaldo had gave us an edge that pulled us over the finishing line when we needed it. especially vs lower rated teams.

To be honest I'd rather the 0-0 draw away from home against the top seeds in our group and nice point to start us off with in the group....

Each to their own.

Even putting the negative football aside, Man U really are there for the taking at the moment. If the plan was to defend and counter attack then fair enough - but when you got the ball it was a case of passing it around defence or hoofing it anywhere.

No plan for attack what-so-ever.

As someone so used to attacking football from your team in the SPL, didn't the complete lack of any attempt to at least test United's leaky defence not bother you at all?

He was pretty much your only goal threat tonight. Came close a few times.

He was the only goal threat because the midfield was so **** to start with - with Giggs instead of Gibson the midfield - and Fletcher - would have kept the ball and advanced more and provided more scoring chances for Rooney and Hernandez

well i hope you told them then mate ,when a man utd team went out to barcelona and stuck everyone behind the ball and played for 0-0 draw a few years ago.

I still don't see what was wrong with the team. 8/11 won the Charity Shield. In honesty, people on here moan when 2-3 players are changed when using the available squad. Can't win really (neither can Utd :p).

:D

Valencia, Fabio, Hernandez havent had a competitive start in 5 matches - 4 weeks or so - what the hell do you expect

Smalling, Brown at the very least shouldnt have started, and the construction of the home team respected Rangers FAR too much

(although in the CL draw thread , I said people should respect Rangers a lot more after I was slated for saying that - yet thats what SAF didnt do enough of, ie played a team too weak, not enough consistant starters in it)

When was the last time Brown even played right back? Today would have been a much better day to play Neville. Rather than against one of the better sides in the league.

If we opened up we may have lost the game, to be fair in the 2nd half we commited a few players forward at times and should have done better with the final ball.

I am very content with the way we played tonight and if we managed similar over the 3 away games, hopefully being able to open up a bit more against Bursaspor then I'd be happy.

This is what we do away in Europe, it works and I'm happy with that, we need to sort out our home form and then we'll be ok :)

if i'm brutally honest, crouch, keane, pav, palacios, ekotto and corluka have to go if we ever want to compete for fourth place season on season
If I'm brutally honest I'm sick of Spurs fans with short memories... some really do deserve the title of "Spuds"

Palacios was a beast in his first season, the guy had his brother murdered over what basically boils down to football money. Give him a break eh? Show a bit of loyalty and support... maybe he will repay it in the future? I remember the Palacios who beasted us at Wigan - then we bought him... then he beasted Arsenal in a Spurs shirt ;) He will come good trust me.

Crouch who scored both goals tonight? Crouch who's goal got us into the CL in the first place? Crouch who always seems to score goals at the highest level?

Well, at least Nani should get some solid game time now and I hope he can sort his consistency issues out. If he does, it would be quite superb.
