***UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 1***

Hoofing he ball clear is not an attempt to attack the opposition. Rangers spent 96 minutes trying to keep the ball as far away from their goal as possible. Even when they went into United's half it was all about possession over creating any kind of chance.
I don't remember rangers hoofing it clear once.

Pretty sure they tried to pass it forwards. I mean there were points were they were actually comfortably in possession for a bit. Admittedly they weren't much cop at passing it forwards, but there was little "lumping" it.

I'm in the middle on this one as Rangers did hoof it a few times but they also passed their way out of trouble on numerous occasions, the sever lack of midfield aided them in that though.

Alright, blatant exaggeration, but they were hardly the struggling minnows being pinned back under the weight of United's attack, and desperate to relieve the pressure any way they could, were they?

As said, they tried to play it a fair bit, they just kept passing it to your lot instead of theirs. Admittedly you were often nice enough to return the favour a few passes later.

Ah fair. Reading the news (yesterday's writings) I think they were available then.

I'm not in Liverpool atm was tempted for a second to ring a mate and head up to London. I still haven't visited Ashburton Grove..

Milan tonight. Some good team news, some bad. Abate starting at right-back = good. Boateng on the bench = bad. Nesta and Seedorf back from injury = good. Bonera in defence = bad.

Meh.

If I'm brutally honest I'm sick of Spurs fans with short memories... some really do deserve the title of "Spuds"

Palacios was a beast in his first season, the guy had his brother murdered over what basically boils down to football money. Give him a break eh? Show a bit of loyalty and support... maybe he will repay it in the future? I remember the Palacios who beasted us at Wigan - then we bought him... then he beasted Arsenal in a Spurs shirt ;) He will come good trust me.

Crouch who scored both goals tonight? Crouch who's goal got us into the CL in the first place? Crouch who always seems to score goals at the highest level?

i haven't got a short memory, i'm looking towards the future, last season was last season. if we want to be a force to be reckoned with, the players i mentioned need to man up. crouch did score the goal which ultimately got us into the cl but he isn't that great, he scored once tonight and should've scored twice in the dying minutes. the situation with palacios' brother has obviously affected him but he's a professional, defoe was in a similar situation and although everyone handles things differently, defoe has remained a true professional in his game, palacios cannot pass and gets yellow carded more often than not, that's not good enough. BAE, corluka and pav are good players but they are not good enough and i know that sounds harsh but it's the truth. pav has scored some crucial goals but he is often totally absent. keane should never have come back from liverpool. gomes, defoe, king, dawson, modric, bale, lennon, VDV, defoe are excellent players, we just need a few more. the other players still have a place but not a first place.

Milan's season is already over. They spend a few quid for the first time in years and they buy strikers that they don't need instead of replacing the old legs behind them. A team cannot be successful with 4-3-3 when they are fielding a MF of 31-34 year olds.

What an utterly strange man. He makes it so easy to dislike him. Must be one of the biggest ***** in football.

And about Arsenal, I can see Braga getting at least one on the counter tonight, so going to go for 2 or 3-1 for Arsenal. Apparently a Portugese side has never won their first CL game, not that it means a thing

Yep I can't tell whether I like him or not. I saw a few YouTube clips of him taking the **** out of journalists and the way he comes across is just rude. Not professional at all, you can have a joke, but at least keep things professional. Seems like a real jerk.

As for Braga tonight, I don't think we'll be underestimating them, they only conceded 20 or so goals in their domestic season last year but then they've just been beaten by Porto and they had trouble against Hulk, if they have trouble against him then I hardly think they will have the quality defensively to deal with a Fabregas, Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin, Chamakh, and so on. I think we'll have too much for them but at the same time we need to remember our defensive responsibilities. Hopefully Almunia is playing and not Fabianski, I think if Fab plays then we are going to have some problems, especially at set pieces and with our new CB partnership we might need to defend from the front.

Any word on when Bendtner, Theo, Robin and Ramsey are back?

Its quite amusing how the term anti-football is used to describe Rangers' performances on Europe when we have no other option but to set up defensively in the hope of scoring in the break.

Do you really expect us to throw everyone forward and allow your strikers clear chances?. We`d lose heavily.

Rangers weren`t there to entertain you, thats your own team's job and they failed miserably.

We were there to grab a point and the 300k that goes with it.

We are realists, we know our level and we don`t pretend to be something we are not.

As for being a supposed Rangers fan?. Stick with Man United. ;)

I watch football for enjoyment and that game was rubbish. Did you enjoy it?

I know it wasn't all Rangers fault, Man Utd were poor as well but I am still scarrred by the 3 atrocious CL games at Ibrox last season.

None of them and Diaby will be back for tonight or Sunderland. I'm disappointed about Theo, not only was he scoring you could tell he looked more confident. I wonder if we'll be able to claim his wages back from England or something.

Have to say with Valencia last night, and then the two Spurs players recently as well etc., a lot of players have picked up long term injuries in the space of a very short time.

Edit - just saw the Ibrah 'kick' now. Couldn't see what all the fuss was about then saw the black guy's face, and the looks from his other team mates around him. Utter arrogant lazy ****.

A few quid for the first time in years? Not really.

We DID need Ibrahimovic and Robinho - Borriello and Huntelaar was generally painful, especially the latter. We needed more midfielders for a 4-3-3 worse still we've got three well under 30 but they don't get played yet. Abate seems to be used more readily at right-back while Boateng is sitting on the bench again for a reason I fail to understand.

Zambrotta starting. Genius :|
