***UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 1***

I think your all stupid, It's obviously Fergie's fault that Man Utd haven't won so many titles over the last few years, and don't challenge for the title every season...

Oh, wait..

yea we have found one or two gems, relied heavily upon them to deliver, Ronaldo for the past few, now hes gone suddenly the onus is on everyone else to actually do something other than look the part and defend whilst ronaldo didnt have the ball.

then last season waynor came into his own.

and now? and now you see because the quality isnt the same throughout the team, when ronny isnt there and rooney is off form? we end up drawing 3 probable wins out of 4, and last season we had our worst ever start and then lost the league to chelsea.

That's no different to any transfer dealings though. Whether you've got £10m to spend or £500m, the process is the same; you identify the best players you can afford that you believe can fit into your system/adapt to the EPL, that would improve your squad.

If you had £500m to spend, you honestly think that Fergie could only find 1 or 2 players that he believed would improve your squad?

I think he'd buy world class replacements for Neville, Giggs and Scholes. Maybe a young centre back. And then a replacement for VdS when he retired.

are you saying that he has not had the cash to do this over the past 7-10 years?

i know he at least tried for scholes.

but who did he bring in as a neville replacement?

If money were no object then why wouldn't you buy players that would improve on O'Shea, Brown etc?

The only reason I can think of is because then you won't have a reason for knocking City and Chelsea before them ;) :p

Because how would you keep them happy? You can't have a squad of 25 superstars because you can't give them all the football they want. You need good squad players like Brown, Park and O'Shea who will do whatever you ask them to and won't whinge to the media if they don't play every game.

no. rafael is a prospect not a straight replacement.

do u see city, or chelsea going out to buy a 17 year old to replace an established team member like that?

like Evra for heinze is a replacement.

Well technically Brown was Neville's replacement (especially the CL winning season), although he was injured so O'Shea played more. Rafael should be playing now really, he won't get better without game time.

Here's a news flash for you:

WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY CHELSEA HAVE

If you can't get it into your head that we can't afford to spend the money on players like Ivanovic/Bosingwa/Paulo Ferraira then all hope is lost. If you want to support a team that can afford to replace a player after he has a few bad matches or if you find someone better on football manager then please go and become a City fan and give the rest of us some peace and quiet.

but...we have spent it, just badly, this is the whole point of what im saying to you.

30 berba
30 veron
20 carrick
20 hargreaves
18 handyson
tosic
djemba, forlan, smalling,

so yes we have spent a fortune on players who have been absolutely fringe or simply not good enough, or at worst useless.

Carrick has a few moments and sure Berbatov looks good for 4 matches this season

but you have to admit that the rest was an abysmal waste. and thats over 100 million right there man?! how can you not see that we have had the cash but wasted it? do you think those were good buys?

1. You have failed to take into account the money we got back for the ones that didn't work out

2. Find me a manager that has bought nothing but good players...that's right there isn't any. It's part of football that not every signing will work out. We could have spent 30m on Dani Alves and he might not have worked out.

You also need to take into account that although Bale is considered a good signing now it wasn't always that way. Sometimes it takes a spark for someones career to take off at a club.

I still think Berbatov will pull it off at Man Utd.

thats not what im saying, you said we dont have the money to do that. i just proved that we DID have the money to buy. we just bought a lot of players for the same 3 positions who failed to work out time and time again. and then failed to sufficiently strengthen the rest of the team, relying upon that youth generation that come through.

2. Find me a manager that has bought nothing but good players...that's right there isn't any.

show me how many 10 million pound flops wenger has bought? then compare to how many fergie has bought, then maybe you'll understand.

i have always thought berbatov talented. But once you miss out on him for 12 million, its ludircrous to go grovelling trying to bag him for 30 million once he has turned 27 years old. No good can come of that transfer, ever. he would have to single handedly win the champions league and the EPL for it to be remotely like good value. it was a fergie maddness manouver.

Why are Brown, Park and O'Shea happy? Because they're at a big club, get their fair share of games and are getting paid better than they would if they left to get regular football at a smaller club.

I agree that even with all that you couldn't keep 25 superstars happy but you wouldn't need to be a superstar to be a better replacement to those 3. Chelsea have got 3 (if you include Invanovic) RB's better that Brown and O'Shea, none or which are superstars and are all seemingly happy.

I guess we'll agree to disagree because I honestly can't see a good reason why any manager at any club would be content with average squad players if he had the money to go out and buy better replacements.

The problem is the standard. If you consider Carrick a flop (who has helped us win several titles and a champions league) then the likes of Nasri, Walcott, Arshavin, Diaby, Denilson, Song, Eduardo, Silvestre, Fabianski are all flops, and that's just the ones recently, not even going back to the likes of Jeffers. Sometimes you just have to accept that transfers don't work out as well as you hope. Veron was one of the greatest players in Serie A, who would have known he wouldn't adapt to the EPL? I agree we overpaid for Berbatov, but that doesn't make him a flop, he's had a great start to the season and is an important player for us. Likewise Nani is one of the top 5 wingers in the league, he gets us important goals either himself or setting up others.

Nasri, Walcott, Arshavin, Diaby, Denilson, Song, Eduardo, Silvestre,

how many of these cost the same as carrick?

Ahh thats right none of them. Let alone the luxury of 3x 30 million pound players in the same lineup (Rio, Berba and Waynor)

you cant compare why Nasri hasnt won the league but why Park has, that is saddening if you think it is a fair comparison.

compare what wenger has spent and what fergie has spent and then we can talk in a similar manner.

thats why im saying to you, if wenger had all these hundreds of millions, he wouldnt have bought silvestre, or have to make do with Flapihandski.

i consider a flop someone who you over pay for and they then go on to under deliver.

if your saying berba is looking good value for 30, then Arshavin is already in profit for arsenal because he has been great this season and costjust over half? Plus has another 10 years in his locker, where berbatov is already 29? to even compare the two insinuating that Berbatov is not a flop and Arshavin is, tells me you have no economic clue.

these are players that barca etc were trying to buy.

No point in keep replying to Nickg, Shami.

He seems to dislike Utd more than City fans, and he supports them!

do you really think thats true? i love man u? i am just concerned by the transitional issues the club has that have not been addressed properly despite funds clearly being available and the players to fill the gaps being available at the right time and the right price.

we just missed out on them and bought badly.

i mean our transfer ins and outs tells its own story. surely anyone with some common sense can see that apart from a handful of good buys the rest of the money has been utterly wasted?

Arshavin has 10yrs left  (Hes 29)
tbh i think SAF has done alright in transfers...Smalling, Hernandez and Twins look alright, berba is a top player just not used correctly but Carrick is a waste as
