UEFA Champions League/Europa League 3/4/5 May *** Spoilers ***

35-36,000.

It's ridiculous every year but the decision to hold the final in such a small stadium this year has only made things worse.

That's a disgusting amount. And people wonder why the atmosphere at football is not what it used to be. Most of the crowd are made up of suited and booted, champers drinking, friends of FIFA freeloaders. Many Liverpool fans spend their life, emotions and thousands upon thousands of pounds following their team, living for moments like a European final, only to see their seat taken by a corporate flunkie who couldn't even point to Liverpool on a map.

The situation is made even worse by the fact that Basle, the city, can barely cope with 35,000 supporters arriving. Now you're always going to get a large number of supporters from British clubs travel even if they have no ticket (as tsinc80697 suggested he would above) but there will be even more this time. IINM supporters won't know if they've got a ticket until the middle of next week, leaving them a week to sort travel and accommodation in a city that's already nearly sold out. The result is everybody is arranging travel and hotels before they know if they've got a ticket and will most likely travel regardless.

Should Liverpool be there to start with after playing an illegible player for 3 matches (at the very least)

Could be embarassing for UEFA if /when they win it

I know ;)

Unfotunately for Frank, Sakho didn't play when he was ineligible to do so, in actual fact he was left out even when he was eligible to play because as soon as Liverpool found out he was borrowing Kolo's slimming pills they wouldn't select him even before he was banned.

He played vs United when he was found to be doped, he also played both games vs BD when UEFA should already have known (given the time in between the games) at the very least

So yes he did play when he was illegible

Incoming argument about Sakho and the massive advantage Liverpool have been getting from his fat pills.

I'm not saying there was any advantage, but the player was still illegible and shouldn't have played (esp vs BD in both legs)

Whether the substance is performance enhancing or not is not the point, its on the "banned" list.

lol no he didn't. He wasn't even tested until after the Utd game and UEFA only informed Sakho & Liverpool 8 days after the Dortmund tie that he tested positive for anything and he wasn't suspended until a further 5 days later.

He was eligible to play in every game he played and even in the Newcastle game in which the club chose to leave him out.

I guess you think a crime hasnt been commited until the court case is decided?

As soon as the crime is committed they become a criminal (for most people at least)

I know he wasnt tested until after the Utd game, but he still wasnt in a fit state to play that game let alone the first BD leg three weeks later.

For UEFA to take that long to get the results back makes it pretty pointless doing the testing in the first place ( its a blatant hole in the proceedure).

Given how minutely everything is monitored these days, Im surprised Liverpool werent aware in the 1st place.

No I don't think that Frank but that doesn't mean somebody is put in prison the day he commits a crime either :)

Sakho was eligible to play vs Utd and Dortmund and had Liverpool wanted to, they could have played him vs Newcastle after the results came back too. He wasn't actually suspended and therefore ineligible until the day of the Villareal 1st leg. So no, Liverpool didn't field any ineligble players as you claimed.

I know corporate is where all the money comes from, but so frustrating. The atmosphere could be incredible, however it will only be in 2 small sections of the stadium.

I remember being lucky enough going to the Champs league final for Arsenal vs Barcelona. Our end was behind the goal, their end was behind the opposite goal, the other 2/3rds of the stadium was corp/suits tickets, absolutely no atmosphere coming from them during the game.

Basically this :( (gray are corp seats)

That's a disgrace.

Surly the tickets must "find a way" back to regular punters, albeit with a considerable mark up?

They do. In 2005 I was sat in the neutral area and 95% of the neutral tickets found there way into Liverpool supporters hands.

Back then I paid £350 for my ticket which had a face value of around £70 iirc. 2 years later I very nearly ended up paying £2000 for 3 tickets. Now you'll be lucky to get a ticket for £1000 for the EL final.
