It's because the refs in this competition are continental and hate any sort of contact, and even then make plenty of dubious decisions. The European teams exploit this pretty well, the English sides usually get penalised more for stuff that wouldn't draw the whistle in the league.

It will be all about the substitutions if this game will get goals. We need to keep hold of ball and get it out to the wings. Bale will stretch it and Defoe will be seeking out the spaces. Long ball to Crouch has not been working !!
