Maybe money is becoming more of a problem eh? who can really compete with City, Chelsea and UTD in the grand scheme of things?
Not sure what you point is, we got utterly destroyed last night by a team with a smaller budget, Liverpool have a smaller budget. We're buying the wrong players, using the wrong tactics and not adapting to teams at all.
The wage gap between Arsenal and City is closing, not widening, same deal with Chelsea. When they got big money their wage bills exploded but have stayed relatively steady over the past 4-5 years, infact reducing on Chelsea's side, Arsenal's have steadily increased over that time. Everton spend even less than Dortmund and utterly demolished us last year.
We could afford to buy Dortmund's squad 3 times over... but end up with a bunch of players who play significantly worse football.
It's not about money, it's about Wenger, it's only about Wenger. There is now, with Fergie gone, no manager who has such complete control over a team. Apparently 8 of the 11 starters for Liverpool last night were Rodgers buys, but the rest of the squad has lots of players other managers have chosen. if he spotted 10 brilliant 12 year old kids they might be the next best things but might not be around for another 5 years.
Wenger has been in complete control for a very long time. Where is the steady stream of youngsters coming through that other teams in europe have(Barca, Bayern, Dortmund, etc). Can Wenger use an excuse that he's just arrived?
He controls who scouts, who picks kids, the style of football the kids play, how they train, who gets to stay and who goes. Ultimate responsibility for the utter failure of our academy rests with Wenger and no one else, as does buying Diaby, Arteta, Gibbs, Monreal, Santos... loaning out Jenkinson without an back up at all, etc.
