UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [20/21/22 October 2015]

Well I would have taken a draw beforehand, CSKA away was always going to be a tough game. Given the crap performance I'm even more happy with the point.

+1

2nd half was 100% better than first half (but that wouldn't have been difficult to be honest), but actually think Utd are well deserving of a point, and possibly can be slightly hard done by only getting a point.

Chocolate teapot would be more useful than Fellaini as a footballer, but hey ho

Ref was pretty awful but have seen far worse

Utter tripe tactically.

I've lost faith in LVG, he has a philosophy, but it's a pile of **** if you have any hope of being a truly competitive team. We'll never beat the best when he prefers deadwood

To be fair the team just isn't there at the moment so tactics are pretty irrelevant

While Jones and Smalling are probably our best two in central defence, we could improve on Jones massively (1st choice full backs are good quality, we just have to get and keep them fit)

Central midfield is ok but could do a lot better (fellaini esp), Mata isn't a winger even though that's where he plays most of the time, and Depay should be just a sub but have no one better currently (Young is an option but nothing spectacular)

Martial is a wonderful buy, but we shouldn't have gone into the season with just Wilson and Martial (both highly inexperienced ) as backup for Rooney

I just don't see Giggs being a replacement though, which is what has been talked about.

The press and what is internally being discussed are completely separate :)

In the future he may be a great choice, but he wont be ready by the end of next season if that's when LvG does walk away

I would agree, I think LvG has done great to turn us around but I just don't think he's capable of taking us the next step.

I mostly agree, I think 2-3 new quality players (in the right positions) and a manager like Ancelotti would set us up quite nicely for the future. LvG is weird, but I feel we're in relatively safe (if often quite depressing) hands.

Unfortunately missed the game this evening but it sounded like the usual...

When we gpt a free kick in the last min of injury time, in their half...
with 3 forwards and fellaini on the pitch..

why did we pass the ball backward to half way line?

This is bad philosophy.

to be fair both crosses were similar if we had a player in the space behind the last 4 could have scored again.

But it also shows he mindlessly crosses balls, with no thought of who's there. It's typical Valencia. He's by far the worst crosser of a football I've ever witnessed at a top club, all the while defensively he's a wreck, numerous times last year and at least once this, being absolutely culpable for the opponents goal. Yet Sky Sports have ran an article last night commending his display, oh and how Rooney proved at the weekend he can still play as a striker...Every pundit seems to love to overlook the display and details... I feel like I'm living in some bizarre world where the top 30 forwards in the world don't exist and the likes of Rooney and Valencia are genuine talents...:confused:

Arsenal get criticised for being poor against top teams, blow Man Utd away and then beat Bayern Munich, and they still can't get a bit of praise from some people. :D

Game plan worked, that isn't luck.

Yeah, never seen DM having a positive post about Arsenal without winging at something. We win, it's like he gets upset.

He is Spurs supporting, nvidia lovin, Arsenal hatin winger. Lol :p:D;)

That was a stunning header. He had no right to put that in from there. Rooney needs dropping asap. He doesn't add anything to the side right now and just takes up a position that a younger better player could occupy. I would like to see Martial up front, Mata behind him and Young and Depay on the wings.

I dislike winning big games because fans for literally 8 years now act like one win means things have turned around.... they haven't. ONce again we get Walcott, who was dire, saying the win against Bayern means Arsenal are for real... seriously?

We lost two games against dramatically easier teams but that is ignored, we won a game, lets pretend we'll win a title, get thrashed next time, everyone will act like it's Arsenal being Arsenal.

What I do is take the season as a whole, I don't do the stupid fan thing of "zomg we won a game, we'll win the title, zomg", nor the lows of "zomg we lost a game, worst team in the world".

We won't win anything significant with Wenger again, nor with Walcott as a starting striker. How many times has Giroud come on the pitch and made Arsenal a threat while with Walcott we look a joke? He passed to the keeper what a half dozen times last night. Even the one genuine save he produced, well Martial from a much much harder position scored from a header by actually putting it in an unsaveable position. His other shots and multiple crosses were horrific.

But screw that, it's that he and Arsenal fans take a single win as a sign of things, I don't, it's the same old Arsenal. We beat Utd and people act like it's the first win against a top four team in years, it isn't. What Arsenal have done for most of the last 8 years is only win 20-40% of our top four games when to win titles winning 50-75% of them is what is required.

I thought we'd win this game, honestly, why? Same reason as always, we were expected to win the first two easy games and we fluffed them, we were absolutely expected to lose this game, see any difference. Pressure, it's Wenger's key problem with this team int he past 8 years. We crumble under pressure and excel when no one expects anything of the team. Conversely Bayern had both made this game unimportant by being so dominant and put themselves under pressure from an unbeaten run no one would shut up about.

This all screamed Arsenal producing a good performance and winning to me, then Arsenal fans getting all giddy, Walcott as always shooting his mouth off despite another woeful performance from him. What will follow, after beating Bayern we'll be expected to be good away to them and win other games in this group and most likely we'll fluff them with the pressure on. We beat Utd, but we'll fluff another game.

This has happened every year multiple times, the win a game no one expects them to, massive hype about what it means, then crashing down to earth 2-3 games later with an embarrassing loss. Literally 8 years and fans still react like these things are coincidences and not predictable. The problems are clear as day, the players who suck continue to suck, the ones Wenger plays constantly regardless of how much they suck, the top players we lose because they don't settle for this rubbish.

No team in Europe spends anywhere near as much as we do to fail to win the league title or a european title, none. Other teams that haven't won a european or league title in the past 8 years are spending 100mil less than us a year. Several teams who spend 100mil less than us(Dortmund, Atletico) have won things and both have reached a CL final. There are no bigger failures in football in the world currently and Arsenal fans are happy with this status quo.

I swear DM is like the candyman, say his name far too many times and up he pops with his epic essays on how crap Arsenal are etc etc.

It's funny how he thinks he speaks for all the fans when in reality he is so far from the truth. Yeh brilliant we beat Bayern the other night, that's 3 pts from 3 games so I'm under no illusion that we will somehow win the CL. Would be epic if we did but we have to play Bayern at home and hope we somehow beat them and other results go our way.

I've said it before, I'd rather us get dumped out of the CL and concentrate on trying to win the PL but even that's a tall order imho. Until we start beating the likes of city, Utd and Chelsea regularly we won't win the pl. Also it would be nice if we stopped dropping frigging points against the lower teams like we always end up doing.

Yeah, I think every fan has different expectations. My expectations is we continue playing attacking football, now that we got money, try and sign at least one top top player every summer. Cech was an awesome signing for us this year.

I have realistic expectations so I am rarely disappointed with Arsenal.

I do agree with DM that Walcott is not the striker that will win us he champions league or likely premier league. But I am happy to give him one full season to see what he can do. I prefer him on the wing though.

We need a world class striker and have Giroud rotate with him and as backup really. Should have paid Liverpool 60M and just got Suarez to be honest. Would have paid off.

Where have I claimed to speak for all Arsenal fans anywhere, even once? I am quite comfortable in distancing my views from the massive majority of Arsenal fans and I absolutely don't ever claim to speak for all the fans, what complete twaddle.

We won't win the PL, we could still easily get through to the knock out stage, we'll fail to beat anyone remotely decent in the knock out stages. It's the same stuff, the same mistakes, the same failures, the same crappy attitude, the same manager excuses, the same failure to adapt, the same transfer mistakes for at least eight freaking years. Liverpool rightly got bored of the same mistakes from Rodgers after 3 years. Expecting a different result after 8 years of Wenger is just nuts. The worst manager in the world should attempt SOME changes after a couple of years let alone 8, to try and fix the biggest problems.

8 years ago I would have been stupidly insanely excited after this win, it MIGHT have been a signal or something back then. 8 years of nothing at all changing, it's not a sign of anything. There is nothing to be positive about, we WILL not win the CL, we won't get to a final, we might not even make it out of the group stages. What is there to be excited about. After 8 years what is missing is hope, we could have Klopp in charge today, but Wenger will continue until the board fire him or he drops dead on the job. He's chasing a final proper title, won't get one so won't leave of his own accord.

We could have pushed him out and brought Klopp in and had hope for this season let alone the future, nope, instead we have Wenger, win the game no one expects us to, lose all the games we aren't expected to.
