They are. But the original claim was they're an European elite side which is laughable. They've never even won the competition and only once, 10 years ago, have they even came close to doing so.

There's only 3 elite sides right now (the ones you've mentioned). Arsenal aren't even in the next batch of sides either.

Yeah if you're talking Elite, then as you say Real, Barca and Bayern. I don't think anyone will take it from them, given their dominance in their leagues etc.

However, outside of that, where do we begin the discussion? Previous 10yrs performance and consistency? 5 yrs?

Well I'd look beyond 1 game, especially if you've lost the previous 2 and are bottom of your group ;)

That's what I mean.
Made the Champions League 16+ years in a row. Qualified for the knock out stages god knows how many times.
Beaten major teams along the way (and yes lost to some clowns).

Plus we're 3rd in our group currently :p

Aston Villa and Everton have been in the top division for god knows how many years in England and beat many decent sides over the years - they're not elite sides or even close to being so.

As I said, with the exception of 1 season 10 years ago Arsenal haven't even threatened to win the competition in all that time. In the last 5 years or so, as an Arsenal fan can you honestly say you seriously expected to challenge or win the competition? Everybody knows what to expect from Arsenal, they'll get to the knock out stages and get knocked out by Bayern or Barca. Nobody has expected them to put up a real challenge.

And you're bottom :p

Liverpool side for tonight:
-----------Mignolet
Clyne--Skrtel--Sakho--Moreno
-----Milner--Allen--Can
---Coutinho-------Lallana
-------------Origi

Allen for Lucas is the only change from the weekend but Benteke and Firmino have both made the bench. It'll be interesting to see if we line up the same way as we did vs Spurs though - it could be more of a 4-2-3-1 with Milner playing right of the 3.

Everton or Villa haven't qualified or come remotely close to the Champs league and neither have been consistent? I mean yes, both consistently a mid-table team, so that's where I'd put them.
Kind of like Liverpool :p

As a football fan, do I expect anyone else besides the elite 3 to win the champs league? No. Does Arsenal making it consistently to where they are mean something? Of course it does.
Your argument could be made against anyone. Did I expect Juve or Athleti to really win the Champs league? No. Same as no one thought Arsenal would beat Bayern the other night considering their current form. However we did, so that's nice. Are we going on to win it? Not at all. However it's still a great result and proves we can mix it with the best of them putting in a good shift.
We're 3rd :p

More the 4-2-3-1 2nd half against spurs though wasnt it, but yeah the christmas tree 1st half. Would hope we can get more support to Origi against Kazan than we did against Spurs..

The Villa/Everton example was based on how they're seen in the PL. Just because Arsenal always qualify that doesn't make them a great European side. In the same way Villa aren't a great PL side despite always being in the PL.

And my argument couldn't be made against anybody. Over the last 10 years, Liverpool, Utd and Chelsea have all had periods of several years where they've seriously challenged and been seen as contenders to win the CL. You cannot say the same about Arsenal. At no point in the last 9 years has anybody taken Arsenal seriously in the PL or Europe. And I wouldn't have put Juve or Atletico in the elite bracket or bracket just below either. Arsenal have always been also rans - until they regularly start making it to semi-finals or finals (let alone winning it) nobody will take them seriously.

And that table's confusing. They don't use GD in the CL, if you're level on points it goes to results between the 2 sides - and you lost to Zagreb so should currently be below them
