UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [9th - 11th December 2014]

I said at the end of the season I feared the over achievement last year would be his downfall this year, it's such a shame the side from last year didn't get a run at the champions league because I think it would have been fantastic entertainment. This season though, the way he has them playing is going to cost him his job.
I don't understand how losing a player that wasn't particularly quick in the first place has made him revert back to the passing football we saw when he first took control of Liverpool. It stank then and it stinks now.

We've lost our identity and Rodgers seems to have lost his bottle which is usually the beginning of the end for a manager.

Still, smash United at the weekend and all will be forgotten.

I doubt it I think should fsg ever want him gone he will be they aren't bothered about sacking people

Rodgers is going to rue the first half performance. Had we played with this tempo all game we might've not been in this position :(

I said weeks ago, he needs to find his balls. The criticism of the defence and early results has scared him and he's trying to set the team up in a way we can't play and a way he can't manage. It doesn't matter who he plays at fullback and whether he picks Lucas and Allen in the middle, we still can't defend. But when he picks Enrique or Johnson at LB and Lucas/Allen in midfield our attack suffers massively.

First half vs City, the Spurs game and the 2nd half vs Stoke are the only games we've genuinely played well in this season and it's no coincidence that those 3 matches/halves were where we played with a high tempo midfield like last season. We have got to get back to playing with the Henderson & Allen/Coutinho running over opposition midfields, allowing Gerrard to dictate the play even if we're exposed a bit more in midfield. Until Sturridge is back I'd be very tempted to play Sterling through the middle with 2 of Lallana, Coutinho or Markovic making up the rest of the front 3.

Yeah, agreed. We're not going to win many games 1-0, so we may as well do our best to overrun teams like we did last year despite the players we've lost/are missing.

Why not do a Man Utd and go all out attack? Back three, Markovic and Sterling on the wings, Hendo, Gerrard, Coutinho, Lallana, and the best of whichever our dearth of strikers is fit! We'd lose a lot of matches, but at least it would be fun!

I think it was a red, a deliberate swipe at a players face is just stupid and an easy decision for the ref to make.

Dont know why brendan thinks otherwise maybe to take the pressure off himself?

Because last year you had Suarez and Sturridge so teams were pinned back and scared of your attack. This season if you did that you would just get pasted on the break against any half decent team. Basel had god knows how many counter attacks in the last 20 minutes and a good counter attacking side would have scored 2-3 of them.

This sums it up for me. He's lost his bottle and we've lost our identity.

I'm not sure how teams being pinned back by whoever makes any difference to our susceptibility on the break. We got caught on the counter loads last season and paid the price repeatedly.

You can blame Rodgers to a certain extent but he's been massively let down by his players this seasons, the amount of under performers and individual mistakes have been horrendous.

They had god knows how many counters because we were down to 10 men and chasing the game to the extreme with just 1 or 2 men back at times. It's a completely different thing to simply play with a higher tempo and higher pressing game as we did last season.

Sturridge and Suarez were fantastic last season and killed teams off but they were able to because of our midfield. When we went on that winning run the likes of Henderson, Allen, Coutinho and Sterling were overrunning sides in midfield - it's gone now.

What was the opinion of Lucas tonight, can anyone post his stats
Did what a DM should do which was win the ball back and play it to better players ahead of him. Looked like he was treated water whenever anyone ran at him at pace but he's still the best we've got in that position. Also attempted and completed more passes than Allen which doesn't bode well when Allen can only bring passing to the team.

How you set players up, plays massively into how they're going to perform.

Henderson's probably the best example. Last season playing on the side in a 4-3-3 he was excellent for us. His energy allowed him to cover Gerrard's side, help out his fullback but also break forward. This season he's (for the most part) played central in a 4-4-2 where his energy has been wasted and he can't influence the game as he hasn't got the ability to sit in and dictate the game with his passing.

I mentioned at the weekend, he played Coutinho in behind Lambert. It made no sense. Coutinho's game is all about feeding through balls into runners and Lambert can't run. Equally, Lambert's game is about holding the ball up, lay-offs and flick on's for people to run off him - Coutinho won't do that.
