UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL ... Bayern Munich v Chelsea ... *** Spoilers ***

lol at Torres saying he expected to start tonight.... on what possible basis did you think you would start Fernando? :p

But then they'd have to find an extra team for Spurs to play, and surely then one of the groups would have 5 teams in it?

Not really, one of the byes could be dropped meaning the amount of teams going through qualification would be the same.

Oh well, no point in wishful thinking - congrats again Chelsea :).

Chelsea defended very well tonight but also played some lovely stuff, so all this anti-football ******** can sod right off. Went in to the game wanting Bayern to win but after how useless Ribery and Robben were it was great to see them lose. Can't actually fault any of the Chelsea players performances. Drogba may dive around a bit but he's seriously a great bloke. So pleased for Cech as well.

Hilarious that Spurs miss out. Their fans can moan about the rules all they like but in reality they shouldn't have let a 10 point lead over Arsenal slip.

I'm staying out of this thread as it just seems like a massive bitch fest..

.. So just popping in to say Congratulations to Chelsea and their fans. Enjoy your moment. :)

Anyways one great thing about this result is that we will now have a fire sale of decent quality spurs players other clubs can buy.

lets see:

Bale to barca
Modric to arsenal
vdv to chelsea
Adebayor > back to city(after begging manchini)

No need to pander and explain to the obvious ***** trying to wind fans up... they know exactly what they're doing.

You think Arsenal would buy Modric? They don't like spending much. :p

Why should the champions of another league have their participation taken away exactly? To make Spurs fans feel better?

Because SPURS IS BETTER HERP DERP DERP. ;)

What do people think on Drogba then, reward him with a new contract or will he want to walk away on a high like Henry? I think he's still a beast, and I can't see any reason he can't play alongside Torres who has impressed me, less with his shooting, but he's been working hard, tracking back, won the ball a good few times, and won the corner for the first goal.

Fact is I don't want to see teams only defend, but unlike many here I respect great defending as much as great attacking and the defense tonight was outstanding, the other team can shoot as much as they want if you can block every shot and Cahill, Cole, Lampard in particular were absolutely outstanding at getting in the way of shots, tackling, stopping chances, etc, etc.

But, I think they were defending in that manor more because they were at a desparate stage of the season after them getting SO bad under AVB, this wasn't Chelsea at their best, it was Chelsea at their worst when Matteo took over and they didn't have time to rebuild, refocus the whole team and get everything working, so they went the build on a solid defence route, its good management.

The question for me is, if RDM stays, can he actually go from organising a great defence with great defensive players, to building an attacking team capable of winning a league title again..... that is an entirely different job and I have no idea, I think he deserves the chance to try though at the very least.

This is where certain liverpool fans and them laughing at talking to Martinez makes no sense, manager's can do different things with different sets of players, with different goals and different quality of players at their disposal.

one things for sure. there is not a bloody chance arsenal could ever defend like that for 90 seconds nevermind 90minutes

Couple of things I did just want to point out about the game tonight;

1- I said when we knew it was Chelsea v Bayern that it wouldn't have the quality other finals have had and I got jumped on by the likes of Moses and cmwhatshisface and what do you know I was right, it was a pretty poor game.

2- Once again Ribery was **** and Gomez once again showed anything but the finishing of a 40 goal a season striker (so stick that in your pipe Killswitch :p)

Well done Chelsea though, I'm not as bitter about you winning it as I thought I would be and when your names on a trophy it really is. Enjoy it Chelsea fans because other than Barcelona supporters nights like these don't come around too often :)

It's time for Chelsea to move on from Drogba, it's the same as us relying on Scholes & Giggs, they're all great players and are still capable of match winning moments at important times in important games but they're all living on borrowed time (in a professional sense).

With the money Chelsea have at their disposal there's no reason why they shouldn't have a striker in his prime that's a lot more consistent than Drogba (given his age) & Torres.

Take away a club's automatic qualification?

This rule's been around for years... it hasn't been newly created, or retroactively enforced... I don't see how anyone can say it's unfair...

Had Arsenal been in this position then I'm sure Arsenal supporters would be thinking the same. Considering how threads are started each pre-season for top four predictions it's pretty ingrained that the top 4 places earns Champions League football by everyone.

Prior to it looking like Chelsea had a chance at winning, most talk was about getting 3rd to enter the tournament proper than having to go through qualifications.

I accept that Spurs didn't get in for next season, it doesn't mean that I have to be happy about it.

And what I said still holds! I didn't deny it wouldn't have all the goalfest/attacking excitement... my contention was that doesn't mean it won't have quality (as 'quality' doesn't just mean attacking football). I actually thought it was a great match to watch - full of tension, which I love.

I have to agree really. I don't even support Chelsea but this game and the Barcelona second game were unbelievably tense.

Almost as entertaining as a goal fest, and they don't tend to have much tension if you expect each team to score every time they go forward.

It was a poor game? Are you joking?

No I'm not joking. I was watching it with 4 other people and we were all bored rigid for 80 minutes and going through my timeline on twitter many of the football pundits I follow say likewise. Dont let two late goals and a penalty shootout cloud the fact that for 80 minutes it was a pretty dull game

What do people think on Drogba then, reward him with a new contract or will he want to walk away on a high like Henry?

I think either way Drogba wins. He's tested himself against the best for years, if he stays with Chelsea then he sees out the rest of his playing days at a top club, if he leaves then he'll probably end up playing in the Chinese league or Russian league and he'll pick up a massive paycheck in the process. Either way the Chelsea fans idolize him so whether he stays or goes is all up to him, personally I don't think he can go wrong either way.

If I was manager I would definitely be offering him a new contract though, he's got a few years left and if he plays alongisde Torres enough I think they could be absolutely deadly.
