** Uefa Champions League, Semi-final ** *spoilers*

the EPL isn't much better than la liga, its gotten hugely worse in the past couple years, the only difference is a huge number of teams have switched to killing game 4-5-1 tactics, which means English sides are better at countering it. Spanish league the worst teams, many of them, will still go all out attack even on Barca even at the Nou Camp. Its an entertainment league and they simply aren't used to playing a kill the game 4-5-1, that in no way means they can't.

I dont think thats the case at all, Barce and Real have been going through major generation changes in the last few years, couple that with the fact the PL is getting huge publicity and investment then the PL teams are going to be better. It all swings in roundabouts anyway, PL teams wont dominate like they have for much longer i would have thought.

The league table sums it all up, Barcelona are top, Real Madrid just behind, but 3rd place are almost 20 points behind Madrid, you just wouldn't get that in England because it's so competitive.

The top four teams in England are strong which is making the difference .... but it won't last forever.

I personally don't think that the Premier League is the "best league" in the world. It simply has the most money.

I'm sorry, but England IS the best league. It has the best players, fastest pace, most competitive and all the teams play in so many different ways. Just look at some of the matches we've had this season alone in England, the 4-4 Arsenal vs Spurs game, 4-4 Chelsea vs Liverpool, 5-2 Man Utd vs Tottenham, 4-4 Liverpool vs Arsenal, 4-3 Man Utd vs Hull. Those are off the top of my head, but you just don't get that same pace and power in other leagues.

The constant domination of British teams in Europe also goes quite a way to show this. 3 English teams in the last 4 again!

And as for 'all the money' being in England, that's the latest absolute nonsense story. No one used the argument about Spain when Real Madrid broke the transfer record for Zidane at £50m, or Figo at £40m, or in Italy with Vieri going for £33m. The most well paid player is Kaka in Italy on something like £180,000 a week. Messi is on just less than that (£150-£170k depending on reports) and only Robinho at fat-cats City comes close to that with his £160k a week. You only hear the media bull **** regarding all the cash being in England from Platini the racist or Sepp 'I hate England' Blatter, who by the way, was all for the £70m+ signing of Ronaldo to Real Madrid on £200k p/w wages!

Bigger money is thrown around in England because it's the most watched and most in demand league in the world, but before that the foreign clubs were spending massive... no one ever mentions that though.

lol your idea of a good keeper is one who catches everything...

The second he decides to punch something...uh.oh, he's had a bad game.

His only downfall was distribution.

At the end of the day (i hate that saying) he kept a clean sheet at the nou camp something that no other goalkeeper can say that this season.

It's more than the top 4 in England. Aston Villa and Everton aren't that far away, only struggling from small squads. The fact is, our league is competitive throughout, on any given weekend any of those teams are capable of beating another.

Terry had his best game of the season ?
He's being really poor all season then ?

That was Anti football.

Please re-watch the game and watch Terry, he won a lot of tackles and made a lot of blocks. It's not the defenders job to play brilliant football, he's there to prevent it. Didn't see much of Messi after 20 minuets.

Yes Malouda ran his socks off, but his touch was poor, he gave the ball away and gave free kicks away, not to mention his on running love afair with Alves.
*yes I know Alves was diving left right and center*

He rarely had anyone to pass the ball to which explains why he gave it away too often. i'm not a fan of Malouda but he did the job he was assigned to do aside from losing Eto early on.

Cech was flapping at the ball, he doesn't look confident, I saw a couple of cross's he pushed out when he should have caught them.

1 cross he should have caught he punches, get over it :o

His distrubtion was awful, I'll say it again, making one or two good saves doesn't make you have a good game, it makes you average, coupled with **** distribution, and not catching the ball / ect ect makes him poor. :)

Yes his distribution was very poor, how many times did Cech actually drop the ball? Once?

I'm not anti Chelski, please don't pull that card.
I just thought Chelski were really poor, in just putting 10 men behind the ball.

Did you really expect any different? Sure we should have tried to pass the ball around more but unfortunately it just didn't happen.

Absolutley! All this talk about Chelsea players playing ****, well obviously not! They kept a clean sheet against a team which has scored 140 goals this season. Yeh terrible performance!!

Altho, 2-1 to Barca would have been better than 0-0 for Chelsea. Scored draw and Barca go thru.

Tummy, doors' that way --------->

Tbh mate what did you expect Chelsea to do at the Nou camp? Beat them 2-0?

I think it was a really good result for chelsea. Barca didn't actually create any real chances and the best opportunity of the game fell to drogba. I think we'll have to be a bit more attacking in the second leg though.

Tactically we need to win some more corners. We are so much better than them on set pieces it's unreal. I think they had about 10+ corners this game and didn't look dangerous from any of them! Puyol is out for the next game and possibly marquez so we should definitely have a better chance of scoring.

edit: I also thought cech overall had a good game.

I'd say the Eto 1 on 1 was the best chance of the game.

Cech who was 'very poor' did really well to keep it out though

Yep. I've said all along, superb in a bad league. Could they hack it in the EPL? Sure, but I don't think they'd look like the superstars they are hailed as.

They play very similar to Arsenal, very intricate and are revered in the same manor.

It's not easy to play attacking football when the buses are parked in front of the goal, Chelsea did what they had to and they did it well.

But the pressure is now on chelsea in the return leg.....and some ppl are counting their chickens way ahead of time, i still fancy Barca to go through.

Yeh, was a week effort from Etoo tho, also a great save at the same time.

Drogba's was straight down the throat of Valdes, needed a bit of direction.

i still fancy Barca to go through.

I do aswell!

Hiddink seems to be a bit of a whizz tho so i hope to be proven wrong!

S'alright mate, won't bother having a different opinion next time ;)
I'll leave someone else to go to the trouble of making these threads.

I can't remember Terry doing much, I wouldn't say he had a good game.
I'd say that most of the midfield "first row of defense" did most of the work for Chelski tonight. Monno brow had a good game against Messi, and Chelski clearly crowded him out when he had the ball, this wasn't due to Terry. was due to have midfields close him down very quickly.

He rarely had anyone to pass the ball to which explains why he gave it away too often. i'm not a fan of Malouda but he did the job he was assigned to do aside from losing Eto early on.

No, but I expected him hold up play, link up with Drogba and run towards the goal. He was poor, he gave the ball away often the same way Cech did, in the Barca midfield which just let them come forward again. Maybe I'm asking too much of an average player.

1 cross he should have caught he punches, get over it :o

He should have caught more balls, its that simple.
His distrubution was awful, and for apparently a "top 3 goalkeeper" he was awful, he made a couple of good stops. nothing more. nothing less. He also punched / looked unsure about knocking the ball away a couple of times. Compared him to Valdes, made a couple of good saves, but his distrubution was spot on. Has Cech really being that bad that today makes him look good ?

:rolleyes::o:D

Yes, for one of the better teams in England I did expect better. I expected them to do a lot more :) Maybe thats just me, and the people I was with, but this wasn't a Chelsea side who were remotely interested in getting an away goal. They came here and put 10 men behind the ball.
They didn't pass, they didn't get forward, people have harped on about Barca having a weak defense, but Chelsea didn't look to test this.

As I said before, Chelsea at home need to attack, but they found out tonight they can't do that without Barca taking massive advantage. If Chelsea try and set out to contain Barca again, we will see another boring game of anti football from Chelsea, which puts them at a much higher risk of going out of the Champions League.

Sorry for having a different opinion Thermaltake, it's what makes the world interesting.
