UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

Not hard to see why England can't pass when you see some of the posts in here, the attitude is very wrong

So because people find Spain boring to watch it must mean we support England's style of play and find that interesting? I find them both fairly boring to watch.

Alonso pretty much was a third cb at times. They went 3 and sometimes 2 at the back during the game last night. Both Alaba and Arebeloa were pushed high up.

Its quite brilliant when you watch their formation change like that.

I don't think Italy can go 3 at the back tonight with the likes of Young and possibly Walcott on the wings. That would be suicide to let them have space.

Spain are fantastic, great to watch. Technical football near it's best, I find it absorbing

If England played like that I'd be over the moon, but as a neutral I find it horribly boring.

Surely that's not hard to understand?

Anyone talked about the impact Pedro made? He looked oustanding the time he had on the ball. He should be starting games as a LW and put Iniesta on the right. Silva just isn't needed.

Silva is only good when he can play behind a striker and supply passes to him like he does for Man City. I think Mata would do better than Silva on the right.

I think a more entertaining Spain set up would be having Pedro - Torres - Iniesta up front.

The weird thing is the commentators kept mentioning how Llorente wouldn't suit that team...but they kept pressing down the side and putting crosses in, seemed like they would have scored a lot more with him on the end of them rather than Fabregas/Iniesta/Silva.

Pique and Ramos are their only aerial threat from set peices. Llorente can provide that service and score goals upfront. Its just such a bizarre team this year.

Llorente has scored 7 goals in 20 apps for Spain. Torres has scored 7 goals in 46 games for Chelsea. Llorente scored 17 goals last season. Surely that counts for something as far as current form goes.

I guess more goes into choosing players though. Can't just look up wiki and decide if they get into the team by looking up their goals/apps. lol.

They just need to start with a striker. Fabregas is a world class midfielder but he's not a striker. He doesn't make intelligent runs off the ball and he drops deep which leaves even less space for an already crowded midfield.

Torres always stands on the shoulder of the last defender and looks for through balls. If it's not Torres then Llorente who can get on the end of crosses as already mentioned.

Not only that but his physical presence in the box can destroy defences. Just like what he did to Man UTD in the Europa league. He tore them apart.

Having Llorente in the box will allow iniesta, xavi ect more space to create chances while Llornte can pull defenders away with his runs. They did this during their QF games.

He can make runs into the box like Yaya Toure and just rips through defences.

Bad defending though but thats what he offers over Torres.

It can't even be argued he promotes long ball football because Bilbao play anything but long ball football, he's a perfect fit for Spain. I can sort of understand his exclusion at the expense of Torres but not a midfielder, that must be soul destroying.

thats quite funny........seeing that the england team are being compared to the 'backs to the wall' performances of chelsea in the semi and final of CL ;) Wasnt exactly thrill a minute football in those fixtures

Been very impressed with Cabaye during this tournament, in a pretty poor France side he's stood out to me, I've actually seen much more from him in an creative sense in 3 or 4 games for France than I've ever seen from him for Newcastle.

Was moderately impressed with Benzema holding up the ball last night, he'd receive balls fizzed into him, get it under control quickly and lay it off to bring others into the game. If England do eventually face Spain then although I'm loathe to suggest it Carroll should be considered at least off the bench. I don't think England can win a passing contest against them and playing for set pieces is only any good if you can actually get into a position to win them in the first place.

Then again I'm predicting a 1-0 win for Italy tonight so perhaps a moot point :)

Thats where my money is as well although I'm sticking a cheeky bet on Terry anytime as well. Got a free bet with bet365 so will do FGS during the game as well seeing as i wont have anything to lose on that :)

Surely the name "ESPN Soccernet" is a giveaway as to where that website is based - I'll give you a clue, it's not this side of the Atlantic.
