UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

Erm...surely that is the one thing you can not say about it!:p
.

the place in the goal mouth was good - the elevation (which is seperate, and related to speed of the shot) wasnt good

Sorry thought I made that clear in stating " a little too firm" - but well done editing the quote

Vintage Frank. Some of the things he says are genius :D

If the whole statement is read it makes perfect sense - as per explanation above

Sorry it appears I have to spell everything out for people around here

Granted. However it wasn't, so I don't really see how anyone can say it was "well placed".

As above

How many games at the end of the season did rooney miss? I don't know and I'm curious as to why people are banging on about him not being match fit.
.

He had about a month out before playing a live game (ie not training) compared to most of the rest of the team who played some part at least in both friendlies before the three group games. It wasnt related to missing games for Utd , just the time between his last game and the 3rd group game.

(and even then I think Rooney - possibly like a number of others, was also carrying injuries he was playing with for Utd)

Frank your 'explanation' is just you digging the hole even deeper :p

Not at all - the softer the shot, it would have looped over the diving Buffon, in the centre of the goal

Whether anyone on here wants to admit it or not is entirely another matter

and anyway - still doesnt excuse the the dodgy editing of what I actually said

He placed it so well, he missed. Missed.

Really?

If he was aiming for the cross bar, then yes, he placed it well. However, he wasn't, and didn't place it well.

You can by all means hit a good penalty and have it saved, but not even hitting the target, alas isn't a good penalty.

according to that - then there is nothing else to do apart from kick the ball - which is obviously ****

Angle , elevation , power, curl to name but a few (even before talking about the run up)

I think what Frank is getting at is in relation to Cole's saved pen Young's was better in that had it been an inch lower it would have gone in (regardless of whether Buffon guessed correctly) whereas Cole's was easily saved and would have only gone in had Buffon guessed the wrong way. Or something like that :p

It's not a well placed shot is it, come on, it's kinda ridiculous to go to such extremes to defend a player just because he plays for your club, which I have to be honest does seem to be what's happeneing. It's baffling as it is, but I can't see this defence being made if Young still played for Villa.

I could go as far as saying it's a little unfortunate, the line between success and failure is so fine at times, a few cm lower and it's an unstoppable shot, almost the perfect penalty. But it didn't go a few cm lower, it hit the bar and there's just no way you can call a penalty well placed when it crashes against the crossbar, not when the whole aim is to hit the back of the net. Might just as well say Cole's was a decent penalty, since that at least goes in if Buffon goes the other way.

Thankfully they don't seem to be getting the typical lynching that players generally receive if they miss a penalty for England, people can see that our problems are far deeper than missing a couple penalties.

Cole's was better placed than Young's :p

Young's had no chance of going in because it didn't hit the target, Cole's could have had Buffon guessed the wrong way.

I get what he's saying about putting your foot through it is how you end up sending it into or over the bar, but it's a gigantic stretch to go from that to saying it's actually a well placed penalty, because you're ignoring the fact that it did not go in. With a little less power, yes it may have gone in, but the penalty Young took last night didn't, simple as that.

We're above average obviously. ABOUT THE SAME STANDARD?!? Are you serious?

Italy had 63% possession, had 31 shots compared to our 8. Just because they had an off night in front of goal it doesn't mean we're near them.

And if Italy are average compared to Portugal, Spain and Germany (and tbh I'd say they were level with Portugal) Then they are not average are they? Do you know the meaning of the word?

So a world class team are having an off night in a really important match against an average team like England, can't score a goal and only win by lucky penalties? Did you ever stop to think that the only reason Italy had so much more possession wasn't because they're great but because England are so goddamn useless? Go on, ask me again if I know the meaning of the word average, you seem to like doing that. :p

It was a poor penalty, he hardly placed it, he just smashed it in a vague area in the centre of the goal, never seemed in control, never looked confident and I thought he would miss

forget the penalties, we were woeful

4 shots on target? simply not good enough and i can't see what youth we have coming through that could make it any better.
