Duhhh

It's happened on many occasions that teams that have started off steadily and built through the tourney rather than starting like a house on fire have gone on to win it. Think that may have been the point.

Not exactly the performance of tournament favourites from France, was it? Still, they'll be happy to have the first game in the bag and Romania should be happy with their performance

Yeah. I think when you go rocketing off and smashing everyone, the adrenaline flows too much and you get mentally tired too soon.

I think Romania should have won that.

Should really have scored in the first few minutes and deserved the blatant pen (and Evra also should have given away at least one dangerous free kick on the left side of the box - if not two).

Credit to Payet, it was a great goal, and Pogba did come up with some great flicks etc but also put the French back 4 un-necessarily under pressure a few times

Romania were the better team over all I thought and couldn't take their chances

Thought Romania did enough to take a point there. France had a lot of the ball in the second half, but Romania defended excellently - in numbers, pressing and worked very hard. I can't really remember the Romanian keeper having to make any saves of note in the second half.

Didn't think much of the officiating. The French were given every 50:50 for the first 60 minutes - the ref didn't even seem to give the penalty until advised otherwise - and then the refereeing was equally poor for both sides in the last half an hour. Not that I'm suggesting anything, but if I were a Romanian the last person I'd want to referee my game would be a Hungarian!
