UEFA Euro 2016 Group B ** spoilers** (England, Slovakia, Russia, Wales)

So why don't you play him in his position within a proper system then? There was no real system 2nd half today - we had a midfield 3 made up with no natural CM's, 2 strikers playing wide and a central striker who's main strength is running in behind playing against a side sat deep.

Completely agree. It was totally chaotic. 4 strikers on the pitch, they weren't playing 4-2-4, but it wasn't exactly clear who was playing "upfront".

Utter shambles. A result of the first team selection being totally wrong.

Gutted for the Welsh, but hopefully both teams will go through.

Sterling should be nowhere near the England team. Put him on a plane home /today/!

Yeah especially when god decides his limbs shouldn't work for most of the year :D :(

:p

Bright sparks: Alli second half, Walker, Llalana, Dier (defensively), Rooney (I actually thought he did pretty well)

Turds: Hart, Sterling, Kane (:()

Are people really, really blind enough to not see that one, Roy doesn't control the team and two, pundits are paid to hype players. They are now saying stuff like Rooney looks like he's played there forever, they are saying he's brilliant, he was absolutely awful. I also like they are playing his shot in slow motion to hide the fact that he tried a really basic pass into the far corner. The keeper randomly threw himself at it rather than walk over and pick it up.

MOTM tonight, dictating the play, grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and driving everyone forwards....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

THese people are literally paid to talk up Rooney because he's worth a lot of money to the FA, he plays because he's worth a lot of money to the FA.

For 15+ years England picks all the most popular players from the biggest teams and starts them in systems that don't work, playing poorly and even if those players are horribly out of form then the manager gets the blame, we get a completely different manager but exactly the same strange popular players get into the team in similarly compromised systems to fit the big names in. This is either a complete coincidence, or the manager is basically a well paid figure head for the FA who chose the majority of the squad/starting lineups.

Only players that deserve to be in the first team from what Ive seen is Rose, Walker, Dier, Lallana and Wilshere.

Yep. They were also saying Sturridge had a brilliant half. He was also pretty poor up until the goal.

Well England got the win, but both goals were moments of mayhem, rather than quality play.

The Sturridge goal was quality I thought but yeah it's a shame it takes a situation where we have 1min to score for the team to actually pass through the middle of a defence with one touch football...

Also wouldn't be surprised if Rooney announces his international retirement after the tournament the way the media are putting him on a pedestal.

Half of me believes this, half of me hopes it's not true.

But you do very much get the impression that money men are picking some of the team; that sponsorship deals are as important, if not more important, than how good the players are.

Money (esp big money) talks.

Wales were nowhere the whole game. I think they had 2 decent chances, one of which wonder boy managed to fluke in again. Luckily for them, England lacks the quality to finish or it could have been a much heavier defeat.

Why do people here have such a massive hard on for wilshere? He's played next to no football this season for arsenal and looked naff when he came on against Russia. I don't see why people hate on Rooney so much either, his stats from the first game against Russia showed he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Coleman on the cast here 'the top quality of Sterling coming off the pitch'.

He's been down the bait shop before the game.

Walker, MOTM, can't disagree with that.

Stats don't really tell the whole story though - I'm kind of coming around to DM's perspective - so many times when he could have been pro-active or pushed up the pressure he just played the safest and laziest option.

Rooney dawdles on the ball, when Wilshere came on against Russia he was third man running and trying to inject pace into the game.

Rooneys only value to me is over a dead ball - stick him in the lion costume and make him run down the touchline if we need him as a talisman.
