UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifiers ** spoilers ** [9th - 14th October 2014]

Just good to see England never really in danger of losing games recently, and actually not conceding. Boring, but still.

Rooney yet again embarrassing himself by wasting a golden opportunity at the end. How anybody can think that sort of 'talent' is worth £300k a week is absolutely beyond me.

The sooner someone wakes up and actually makes him legitimately compete for a place the better.

It's almost undeniable that Rooney's going to become the top English scorer.
I can't see any one else coming close for a while, not until we give some younger strikers chances (That are English)

On the topic of his goal scoring record, did the other players around his total collect an equivalent percentage of their goals against teams like Macedonia and lichtenstein?

This is an interesting read with plenty of stats (albeit a few years old now):

It basically argues that Crouch has been a better goalscorer for England than Rooney except he was rarely given the game time against better teams, yet people argue that he can't score against big teams (neither can Rooney who has played far more minutes against them).

I'm guessing Bobby Charlton etc scored against much better teams (at the time) and in actual tournaments.

As much as people criticise Welbeck he isn't that bad, better scoring rate than Rooney at the moment. He's a ST not LW/RW which was his given role at MUFC

Only because of Welbeck's hattrick against Galatasaray (which really isn't that much to shout about)

Let's see what the records show at the end of the season, next season etc.

You you have to think if we played the home nations in a cup every year rooney would probably be in 3 digits now after 10+ years :D Then again so would Shearer and Owen.

Wasn't there a comment on tv during the game the other night that Rooney already has the most competitive /non-friendly goals for England

Dunno made me laugh when I read the link someone posted on ozil leaving Arsenal

On that page is also some stuff on Rooney and England....

Without taking anything away from Rooney, there are more cheap international goals about than there were in Lineker’s day let alone in the Greaves and Charlton era.

I don't believe that's true at all, international football may be going through a low spell but there were far more cheap games back then.
