UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16 ** spoilers ** [26th - 29th June 2021]

How has Xhaka played that well compared to his usual league form?

Is top level club football really that superior to international now?
Re the first question, it's not as if he's never had a good game for Arsenal before. Re the second question, yes. Not one International side would finish in the top 6 in the PL.

This is why Mbappe has still got some way to go to be the best player in the world. He played OK in places but the chance in extra time, when he should have taken it first time with his right foot but then blazed wide with his left, typifies his tournament.

Well I guess tomorrow will be Kane's turn to go missing.

I don't think anyone is claiming he's the best player in the world atm, and I'd also suggest that this performance wasn't up to his usual standard. Compare him to the WC in 2018 and it looks like he's almost regressed slightly. I'd guess there's something off the pitch going on, he hasn't looked right all tournament.

i wouldn’t be, the Swiss have shown they can beat Spain

I dont know, I still think that if you asked the Spanish players if they wanted to face Switzerland or France, they'd say Switzerland because even if France havent been great they still have the ability to be so. Its much like Englands situation, I would imagine that if we had the choice of facing Germany tomorrow or Hungary, we'd have picked Hungary because again, even though Germany havent been great they have more chance of being great on the day than Hungary would. So in that respect I reckon the Spanish players will be happier about facing Switzerland than France.

Could someone kindly link me to a ‘visual bracket’ of the outstanding games? I’m only on a phone so maybe I’m being blighted by horrible ‘mobile webpage’ formatting, but I can’t seem to find an up to date one - it’s maddening!! Cheers!

Edit - there’s a version on the UEFA app but why do I have to bother with that, ffff

For sure. Germany where fierce against Hungary in that last 20 minutes. When you have a team that can pull it out like that facing up against a side that nearly always perform poorly in the last 30... It's why I won't be surprised if he doesn't start Grealish/Saka/Sancho, we may well need that fresh quality in the second half to pull us up. Who knows though, it could go either way and I think you'd be a fool to call it.

Really wouldn't surprise me if Southgate decided to go with 3 at the back and have Trippier and Shaw down the wings, could be a handful

Also praying to the Gods at least one of Grealish or Saka starts

Right today is the day. Just need to beat Germany and we win the Euros right. Right?

If we dont, then we'll certainly be running out of excuses. If we cant win a tournament when Germany, France, Holland and Portugal are all knocked out we might as well start not bothering to enter. It'd be like Murray failing to win a tournament thats got no Nadal , Federer or Djokovic in it :D
