***UEFA Women's EURO England 2022***

I'm not sure why some people are trying to knock the women's game. The fact our English women have won a tournament after being banned from playing and underfunded not even that long ago in relation to the mens game is a exceptional feat.

Why would you not just been happy and celebrate that women from your country won a international tournament on home soil? It's not a contest between genders etc, they won...for England!

Who is knocking the womens game though? You can both support and admire what the England team did on sunday and recognise how the PL uses money to advance other less popular clubs and leagues.

The PL isn't though. Individual PL club owners are and on a far smaller scale than they're subsidising their men's teams. You made the point of Arsenal's women's team making a £9k profit but failed to point out that their men's team lost over £120m.

Your entire argument is a load of nonsense. PL and men's pro football as a whole cannot afford to pay for itself, let alone subsidise women's football. Professional football, on the whole, is being massively subsidised by outside investment.

My argument is the womens game isn't been underfunded. The life-time value of PL clubs is just a different kettle of fish compared to lower league and the women's game. You can't ignore that.

The dropout rate is extremely high with girls football coaching. It's indicative of the interest, the WNBA has shown something similar.
Are you personally going to be watching the women's game every weekend? No you won't be.
It'll need the female base to carry it forward over the long term.

And then bought out......

Your club was on the verge of bankruptcy when that stolen Russian money poured in. As Baz said you needed your billionaire owner to pour money in every season to survive as it was living beyond its means as a business. Pot, kettle, black. In fact any fans of Chelsea, Man City, Newcastle would be hypocrites in the extreme to criticise the women's game being subsidised.

How can you say it's not been underfunded. To this day there are PL clubs that charge young girls to attend their academy where as boys play free - PL clubs are subsidising boys youth football and not girls football. Opportunities for girls to play football have not been there and still aren't fully there. Things have improved though and the last few years are clear proof that more girls do want to play football. Attendances of womens football have increased massively, as have television and commercial money. There is clearly a fast growing market for women's football and that will increase further as a result of these euros.

And this is coming from somebody that didn't watch 1 second of the Euros, has never watched more than some joke compilations of women's football on youtube/twitter, nor have any intention in the near future to watch any womens football.

we'll see how much additional interest there is in both the women's Premier league and grassroots football in the coming season, from a cursory google it would seem that the highest viewed women's PL game last season was approx 500k. internationals aside personally I'm not so sure just how commercially viable women's football in this country is.

The opportunities to play football are there, you're using a tiny percentage of academies as a view of the whole landscape. School coaching is the largest bit of the pie for getting girls into football and some of the coaches ive spoken with over the years say it's a bit of nightmare. Some years, they can't even get a full roster of players. It's obviously a combination of factors that contribute to that.

The WNBA is a good example of demand side of things though, whether the FA can do something different remains to be seen. The WNBA has been going well over 20 years, they share the same stadiums as men (same potential attendance capacity) there isnt a 'day' like football and saturdays, they play through the week. The average attendance is like 4k, there is nothing stopping people from filling those stadiums out and getting 25k/30k.

With the greatest of respect, I don't believe you re speaking to coaches.

You claimed that women's football isn't underfunded and claimed that they rely on being subsidised by men's football. The 2nd point is so laughably untrue it's actually silly and no I'm not taking the academy situation as an overview of the entire landscape, it's simply a clear example of the lack of funding given to girls football. If PL clubs started charging young boys to attend their academies then the number of kids in these academies would drop and that would have a knock on effect to the quality of players they produced. Things are better today than they were before but to suggest that funding and opportunities for girls to play football is 100% there is nonsense.

The situation with PL academies will no doubt change in the future as more and more PL clubs are recognising that women's football is a fast growing market. Again, I'm somebody that has no interest in women's football but nobody can deny that it's growing. More and more supporters are attending matches and more broadcasters and sponsors are pumping money in as a result and the euros will only accelerate this growth. Will it become as big as men's football? Almost certainly not and it will take many more years before it reaches it's peak but it's no where near reaching it yet.

Cry more incorrect tears.
