***UEFA Women's EURO England 2022***

i know the sad thing is when they won the world cup there was none of this hysteria

the media dictates what people get invested in unfurtunately

I'm a ruby fan but football is our national game. The rugby (mens) world cup doesn't get near the viewing figures of football. In the same way cricket doesn't either, not even the Ashes comes close. The media on the whole just feed people what they want. There will always be more interest in football that rugby or cricket.

You claimed that women's football isn't underfunded and claimed that they rely on being subsidised by men's football. The 2nd point is so laughably untrue it's actually silly

I mean, just take Sue Campbells words

"The launch of this strategy is game-changing for the women's football pyramid," said Baroness Sue Campbell, The FA's Director of Women's Football"

"It will ensure The FA WNL can maintain pace with the wider growth of the women's game, and the clubs and their players can thrive both on and off the pitch.

"We want to say a huge thank you to the Premier League for their support, without which none of this would be possible. The money they are investing will transform the experience for everyone who plays in the third and fourth tiers of women's football."

How is it laughably untrue exactly?

Are you taking the mick now? You're quoting something that is going to happen in the future to back up your claim that women's football has been subsidised by men's football for 'quite a while'. Furthermore, it relates to funding for the 3rd and 4th tier of women's football - the same way the PL provides funding for the entire pyramid of men's football too. Put the shovel down.

Football as an industry loses huge amounts of money each year and it's funded by outside investment. Football, not men's or women's, is subsidised hugely. Your attempt to put the women's down game by suggesting it needs other people's money to survive is ridiculous because the vast majority of all football clubs need that.

It's pointless talking to Billy Bob.

It is, when you're wrong.

The irony of this whole discussion is lost on you though. You're arguing about women's football needing subsidising while supporting the one club that's been subsidised the most in football history. Maybe Chelsea should just be scrapped because they cannot survive without being subsidised by the russian mafia?

Subsidised by the owner who then sold the club for 4.25 billion, shrewd investment. Unlike women's football, it will never have the fan base.

It's been happening for years through the football foundation. 3rd and 4th tier of womens produce no revenue, they need support to grow the game. I mean, everyone knows the bottom half of the pyramid in the mens games needs support and help. So does the womens game. Why saying that is so contentious is bizarre tbh. You are saying i'm digging a hole, isnt that what are you doing? trying to prove the my statement saying "the women's game is not underfunded and needs subsidies from the mens game (specifically...The PL)" is wrong. When it clearly isn't wrong.

It's very simple. You claimed "men's football" is subsidising women's football, that is plain ridiculous because "men's football" is losing hundreds of millions, if not billions every single season. It cannot subsidise anything because it doesn't have the money to even pay for itself. Hundreds of millions, if not billions is pumped into the entire football industry every year to subsidise football, not men's or women's specifically, however the vast vast vast majority goes to subsidising men's football.

How can Chelsea's men's team, for example, who have lost on average £100m per year (in actual cash terms) for well over a decade subsidise their women's side? They didn't of course. Roman Abramovich put money into Chelsea FC which subsidised both the men's and women's teams. You even cited Arsenal's women's team making a profit, the same year their men's team lost well over £100m!

The PL is being subsidised by owners of PL clubs and their subsidies filter down into both the men's and women's game.

He didn't sell it for £4.25bn. It was sold for £2.5bn and he didn't see a penny. Doesn't seem like much of a great investment to me but when you get into bed with the mafia then what do you expect.

When i say mens football, i'm clearly meaning the behemoth that is The Premier League, they are the ones that are funding grassroots along with the FA and the government, whether its girls, boys, disability football etc etc. I'm not talking about Crawley Town or Blyth Spartans am i.

Apologies, you missed my edit:
The PL is being subsidised by owners of PL clubs and their subsidies filter down into both the men's and women's game.
As I said right at the beginning, the 20 PL clubs lost around £1bn in it's last set of accounts. The behemoth that is the Premier League funds football throughout the country, men's and women's but itself is subsidised by around 20 billionaires from around the world. "Men's football" doesn't make enough money to pay it's own way, let alone pay for others.

Some people are just so envious of Chelsea, Abramovich owned the club therefore didn't subsidise it.

The women's game is subsidised by the men's teams and the Premier League.

In 10-15 years I'd love it if it was much much popular and could pay these women to be full-time but it won't.

What will happen though is the gender pay gap nonsense will start back up!

a lot of them are already full time...

Do you know what the word Subsidize means?

I'm not sure what you mean tbh. The PL tv deals are astronomical, passing 10 billion in the latest deals.

I think the top league will certainly grow and become pretty large.

What will be interesting to see is whether after the initial interest from the Lionesses winning, will the attendances and participation continue to grow after 3/4 years or will it drop off and flatline. The WNBA haven't been particularly successful at it. So it'll be interesting to see how well the FA can do.

What I mean is, despite the billions in revenues the league generates, the clubs are (collectively) still losing huge amounts.

Swiss Ramble recently calculated that the PL and Championship clubs combined lost £7bn over the past 10 years. Only 3 of 44 clubs didn't lose money over that period.

Its no a case of envy. Personally I would never have wanted that money at my club as we all know where it came from. I'm gald I never had to cheer on that criminal. The fact he is the owner doesn't mean he isn't subsidising it. The club was living beyond its means and he was pumping money into it. It wasn't living on the money it generated or the PL generated.

The Championship and lower leagues are all subsidised by the PL money. If that money was taken away most of them would fold. So I don't know what your issue is with the women's game being subsidised.

Please remember the other Lioness's too. There achievements drawf what the footie girls have done they deserve some respect and love too

England woman’s Rugby team have won the 6 nations championship on a total of 18 out of 27 occasions – winning the Grand Slam 16 times and the Triple Crown 22 times – making them the most successful side in the tournament's history.

They’ve also won the Women's Rugby World Cup in 1994 and 2014, and have been runners-up on five other occasions.

They are also ranked number one in the world and have winning streak of 23, yes 23 consecutive games against the best teams in the world

Yeah but compare that team photo to the football team.....

er ...I'll get me coat. :D
