***UEFA Women's EURO England 2022***

I think they need to look into changing the size of the goal in the women's game. Having it the same size as the mens is just daft.
but then they couldn't say "we play football not women's football".

good win, gg.

Edit: I like that the standard is lower and goals are more likely. Makes for more interesting viewing as long as you don't get 2 trash teams.

Changing it would be daft. More ammo for the trolls. Having said that, trolls will always troll.

There was a great save from Earps from a looping cross shot. If that had gone in, then it would have been game over in my opinion. There are certainly some poor quality goalkeepers in the women's game. I think that would have beaten quite a few other goalkeepers in this tournament.

I don't know, it just feels a bit...slow so much of the time. The only time goals are more likely is when the gulf in quality between the teams is huge.

And the men's game isn't???

It's infecting the England Women now and hopefully they can fix that, but watching the men is often an exercise in utter frustration as a vaguely promising move to a very promising position ends in them slowly bumping the ball all the way back to their own keeper...

It was interesting to see how the England women coped being on the back foot for once. It was a difficult watch and I'm sure they were frustrated because Spain had a lot of controlled possesion.
A scrappy win but sometimes that's what is needed, well done ladies.

I’d definitely say there is a lot more positivity and attacking intent in the womens game, you see a lot less passing sideways in a game. I wouldn’t say the pace is any slower than the mens game neither.

It’s a shame the mens game has been nullified by the fear of losing, its entertainment at the end of the day and there should be more incentive for teams to attack.

The women's game seems to be a little over reliant on crossing to me. It feels like you rarely see 1-2's or little dinked balls over the top. There doesn't seem to be a lot of off the ball movement. It's mostly get the ball to the wide player and cross it. Feels like a throwback to an older time in some ways.

Watching some replays of Stanways goal, while its a decent strike the keeper should have saved that easily imo.

Still, was a good watch overall I think.

I was thinking the same and then thought about the circumstances, the time in the game and also the audacity. I guess it caught the keeper by surprise that someone would dare try something from long range - lapse of concentration. She was close at least.

Good strike though.

I think we are unfairly comparing things to the top of the mens game. I am thinking "Alisson would have saved that easy", but hes quite literally one of the best keepers in the world and cost £65 mill.

:p

I mean, it wasn't directly in the very top corner and with the angle, it kinda flew across the GK rather than directly past - if that makes sense.

Anyways, well done England. :)

While Im not an avid football fan I do like to watch internationals and to me the womens game seems to be better than the mens almost across the board:

Less diving / rolling around in agony for 5 minutes
More attacking and flair in the play
Crowds and commentators infinitely more positive - not seen any toxicity which is almost mandatory in the mens game
Genuine family friendly environment

As I mentioned I dont follow domestic football so have no allegiance to any teams / players - I just watch it for the entertainment and for me womens game beats the mens game everytime at the moment.

Earps has impressed me based on the fact she seems to actually claim the ball rather than flapping, punching or just staying on her line. A good combination of composed and decisive.

Goalkeepers have always been the big weakness in the women's game, even premier league keepers are pretty poor except for a handful. Any sort of shot struck with power towards the roof of the net seems to beat them even if it's not in the corner.

Regarding Stanway's goal, I looked up the Spain keeper and she is under 1.7m in height (under 5ft6). It's going to be hard in a fullsize goal. In fact if you look at her dive, she's kind of forced to go for it with her 'top' (left) hand whereas the 'bottom' (right) hand would have had longer reach but not enough height. A men's keeper could probably have gone with an underhand save.
