***UEFA Women's EURO England 2022***

Amazing how many chances France and Sweden had in their matches. Probably near 60 in total. Good defending from the Dutch though, particularly van der Gragt and good keeping from van Domselaar. That said, France should have won the game sooner with the chances they had.

Hopefully will be a good match against the Germans. Germany will likely test the French defence more than the Dutch did. Dutch were very poor in that department. I think they need a new manager. That Parson's bloke is certainly a step down from Sarina Weigman. Too many men managing in women's football, who let's face it, were a failure in the men's game. Either that, or wouldn't get anywhere near managing a good men's side, club or national level. Hopefully more decent female managers will emerge, such as Weigman, Emma Hayes, who manages Chelsea and the Austrian manager looked like she was doing a good job. Less people like Phil Neville who have bugger all experience getting the England job would be good.

Earps has impressed me based on the fact she seems to actually claim the ball rather than flapping, punching or just staying on her line. A good combination of composed and decisive.

Goalkeepers have always been the big weakness in the women's game, even premier league keepers are pretty poor except for a handful. Any sort of shot struck with power towards the roof of the net seems to beat them even if it's not in the corner.

Regarding Stanway's goal, I looked up the Spain keeper and she is under 1.7m in height (under 5ft6). It's going to be hard in a fullsize goal. In fact if you look at her dive, she's kind of forced to go for it with her 'top' (left) hand whereas the 'bottom' (right) hand would have had longer reach but not enough height. A men's keeper could probably have gone with an underhand save.

Yeah, the standard of keeping at the last tournament was pretty bad I seem to recall. Certainly has come on leaps and bounds since then. Certainly going to help having women at around 5'9" in goal, given women in general are shorter. van Domselaar impressed me and she is 5'9". Earps is a little shorter, which I didn't expect until I looked at her stats. Good keeping skills undoubtedly make up for a lack of height. I saw a video where someone interviewed her and she did some basic keeping training with this guy, and she explained the importance of footwork, positioning and reading the situation. That was before this tournament and I got the impression she knew her stuff. Certainly more so than those female keepers who look lost and flap their arms about. :p

I have watched a few of the matches and have to say its been a refreshing change to watch a game of football without a lot of the cynical diving and rolling around as if shot that you get when the men are playing.
