UKFSN users in plz

I wouldnt care if they changed their limits.

It should be something like 30GB Peak / 100GB off peak £20.

That would suit me and a lot of others I would imagine! And it would halt the real heavy leechers!

oy! :( Don`t you be giving them ideas!

Tbh i don't know why everyones kicking off about it at ThinkBroadband, so what your going to get throttled to 2mb for a couple of hrs after 10pm, 2mb, im on that now, certainly wouldn't bother me for a few hrs, 2mb is fine, and once capacity drops then your speeds go back up to normal, least its not like Tosscali etc... reducing you to 20-30k for about 10hrs a day, jesus why ppl can't download on 2mb is beyond me, they expect full 8mb speeds 24/7, 365.

Im still going to em, sounds like a good solution to me, better than them shaping you 20k's etc... as said for hrs. :)

Your paying for what your line can take up to 8meg, so if you can get 6 meg speeds your monthly payment is for that speed so thats what you should expect , would you buy a car that would only run at 30mph for part of the day but went up to full speed at nights for example i very much doubt it.

I certainly ain't being messed about for speeds if i want to dl at my full speed of 470kbs this is what i expect not reduced speeds, i never get speed problems on Nildram so ill give this a month(Thursday i go on UKFSN) then if its crap i be off i ain't paying £41 a month for a sub standard service.

Maybe they should stop taking on new customers all the time and give the ones they have the service they promised at the start.

This would be the logical way to go, but we know it wont happen as imo they just want more money like most isp's.

Seeing that my profile is only 4mb it wont affect me as much as the people who are on a lot higher profile who have more to lose speed wise :D

But saying that, if my profile was say 7mb I would'nt be happy either. The only thing people can do is vote with their feet.

Aquiss are exempt from this 'shaping'. In reality this would only affect users slightly as your maximum throughput would drop as the load hits 100%. All this is doing is protecting the gamer's ping times who are funding these high caps due to their little download usage.

There isn't a lot Enta can do though. They ordered a 4th central as soon as the 3rd was in.

Aquiss are a L2TP reseller.

And your acronym was highly exaggerated, the Max service is advertised as up to 8Mb/s. Anything above 2Mb is a 'bonus' So to put it in a different way: "It is like buying a car that is limited to 70MPH during the rush hour and *up to* 155MPH in the early hours and day.

I chose a business package on the hope i would miss problems like this as with most isps business gets priority, only thing i can do is see how it goes on Thursday, the point i was trying to make if your line supports 6 meg you should get that speed no matter day or night sadly it just shows how bad broadband is in this county.

I'm one of the heavy leechers you are talking about. Whilst I don't do it all the time, sometimes I'll use over 150GB a month. However, I don't mind paying for what I use so long as the service is stable.

If all the problems are at 10 pm onwards, why don't they have 300GB during the day and 30GB at night? After all, everyone is at work during the day apart from students (and they don't get out of bed till the afternoon :)) so downloads could be done then. That way, you can come home at night and game/surf till your hearts contents.

I know it's not practical but it's worth a post cos it will surely wind someone up ;)

Maybe they should cut the off peaks amount 300gig is a good amount if they slashed that too maybe 150 for the lower packages and 200 for the higher that might help abit.

But saying that Nildram offer unlimited off peaks and before they were taken over they never seemed to have problems with slow speeds, i been with Nildram since last august and i can honestly say ive never failed to get full whack 24/7.

:D Just go my account activated with ukfsn, but I'm at uni today so will have to wait to get home to test it out. Hopefully it'll be better than Plusnet :p

couple of quick questions:

a) can you tell how much of your monthly bandwidth allowance you have used at any given time? I wouldn't like to be caught unawared by the part in their terms that says: "Customers who exceed their allowance will be charge the rate for the allowance level used plus a £5+VAT charge."

b) How do you tell what your current sync speed is during the training period? If its just the speed reported by your router, is that to say that during the training period you are routinely being disconnected and reconnected?

in your login at ukfsn website there is a bandwidth monitor thingy :)
dunno exactly how accurate it is though

i migrated in yesterday, i think the usage cap only updates once a day as my record didnt show until today for yesterday and it was this:

Below you can see the amount of bandwidth you have used in the current billing period, starting the 15th day of each month..

Peak Bandwidth Used: 0.60Gb

Total Bandwidth Used: 0.89Gb

The peak allowance on your ADSL service is 30Gb

The peak period is Monday to Friday 8am through to 10pm.

I wouldn't be surprised if the peak time got longer, but it remains to be seen if it would help. Most of the folks causing the problem have their downloads set to kick off bang on 2200.
They certainly can't keep lighting Centrals like there's no tomorrow.

No.

They can surely see the users who are causing the problems?

If that's the case, they should just throttle them, some people are just excessive with things like this.
