UKFSN users in plz

I agree, the problem is this will happen with every isp as it becomes more 'popular' there was some guy who says he is moving from ukfsn to fast.co.uk but they are very expensive and the same thing will likely happen to them aswell.

Indeed. Every ISP will have the same limitations eventually due to people abusing connections.

It's hardly abuse if all you're doing is using the allowance you've paid for.

Most ISPs won't see the same crunch if they aren't offering unreasonable limits at silly prices. Remember it only takes 900 users hitting 2Mbps to saturate all 3 Centrals (and AFAIK they don't have all the segments lit on them all).

They have all segments lit on the first 2. TH2 only has 1 with the 2nd being lit on 1st feb.

In which case 900 users becomes <700, rising to <800.
Hardly a massive number with what, 100k users?

do you have any info on other ISP's number of users and how many pipes they have?

Plusnet used to publish both. Most PLCs (Pipex, Plusnet et al) publish user numbers (but most won't say how many/what Centrals they have).

Plus.net have 4 pipes and just over 200k users was said in a thread at TBB.

Is there a link to the amount of users on Enta? Jason at UKFSN said it was 25,000 users per central to make it viable for Enta to purchase another pipe with a growth of 6000 members to light a new segment. Not sure if that is the model they use though.

havent tried but they dont throttle it i dont think.

They do now :( Look on the adslguide forum. My offpeak max is around 400k at the moment, when 4 months ago was at 860 :(

:D Just go my account activated with ukfsn, but I'm at uni today so will have to wait to get home to test it out. Hopefully it'll be better than Plusnet :p

Over christmas my parents plusnet account was actually faster than my UKFSN account lol. I was hitting 860 easily on newsgroups with plusnet and only around 400 on ukfsn. I found it fine as long as you didnt go over 13 gig on peak.

i know about going down to 2mbps in off-peak but i dont think they throttle p2p ports etc and you will get better speeds in peak times.

Im slightly annoyed with it in terms of I only just joined Freeola last week!

Now they do this change! And I am not a heavy user, I don't see why they cannot just cut the off peak download limits instead, and leave the speed the same.

true i agree, i think the heavy downloaders are gonna start leaving and therefore speeds will increase. I was online last night and at 10 it went to 2mbps but about 20 mins later it was basically normal speed. :)

No they dont throttle p2p ports etc... you may not even go to 2mb, thats the lowest it will go, its only to stop the packet loss when everyone jumps on and sets their downloads away when the off peak starts at 10pm, and it only lasts for about 2hrs.

Because that is not the problem. Everyone will still schedule downloads for 10pm and you get 3 black centrals lit up like lumps of coal. I personally think this is a great solution, not perfect, perfect would be BT being able to add a central straight away.

Downloaders are being selfish here when they say it is rubbish and effects my download speeds. Downloads are not time dependant, leave it running over night and schedule your PC to shutdown when it is done.

A guy posted this over at ADSLguide.org, explains it perfectly of what Enta. are doing.

Enta are not throttling us all to 2Mbit, they are doing stepped throttling in 500Kbit steps until the load is at an acceptable level to prevent packet loss and high latency. The lowest your rate will be set to is 2Mbit, but that is not a static figure, the limit could be anywhere between 2Mbit and your Bras Profile Limit depending exactly on how congested the central is.

Also this will be a per central control, meaning not -everyone- will be throttled, only people on congested pipes, they can also move to a none congested pipe by reconnecting with their router.

They are adding a new segment in 16 days which will relieve some of the strain anyway and mean people's rates are effected even less.

As congestion decreases your rate will be incremented again in 200Kbit steps.

Why the hell ppl are throwing major wobblers over this i do not know, well i probably do actually, its all those that must be downloading porn/games/films/music etc... 24/7, 365, they probably have whole machines just sitting there downloading constantly.

As i said before im still joining them as i think this is a great idea, all these moaning ***** wanna get their arses on to the likes of Tosscali, Eclipse etc... where they shape your p2p to ******* dial up speeds all day, if there kicking off because they may only get 2mb instead of 8mb, then the ***** will be on killing sprees if they were only getting 20k-30k out of an 8mb connection.

Oh yeah Pipex to, forgot about those, see here, 25k download speed and hes on 2mb, and theres ppl commiting murders on Enta. because they may get a slight drop depending on congestion, dear god what is the world coming to eh. :(
