I can see both sides of the argument. Yes it is affecting innocent Russian people. But they are representing the Russian state, not representing themselves as individuals. They aren't being banned for being Russian. The country they are representing is being banned.

I don't know enough about it. It's entirely possible and probable that they have supported putin and a terrible regime.

...So why was nothing done before Ukraine? The annexation of Crimea as a recent example.

I'm in favour of doing this, just raising the question for purpose of devil's advocate.

It's not spite, the only way to weaken Putin's power base is to penalise every prominent Russian and attack every aspect of their lives.

I would cut off all trade from Russia entirely including food and medication if it meant preventing world war 3, as even oligarchs need Western pharmaceuticals. Taking someone out of the Olympics is utterly trivial in the context of a war.
 
Kyiv will be a blood bath when that convoy arrives, Ukrainians will not give it up easy, I don't know how many will defend Kyiv I suspect there's somewhere in the region of 100,000 willing to fight, plus a steady stream of foreign fighters and weapons pouring in, and some Ukrainians that fled are now returning to fight, it will be like the battle of Stalingrad, it's unthinkable this is happening again in Europe.
