New stamp:

Kyiv (Ukraine) (AFP) – A stamp depicting a Ukrainian soldier making an obscene hand gesture at the Russian Black Sea flagship Moskva has become a collector's item for Ukrainians who see it as a sign of "victory".

At the central post office in the capital Kyiv, hundreds of Ukrainians of every age could be seen queueing for hours on Friday to get their hands on one of the one million copies printed so far.

Ukraine's postal service last month launched a competition to illustrate the episode.

Out of more than 500 submissions, Lviv designer Boris Groh's winning entry shows a Ukrainian soldier from behind swearing at the warship.

It has proved a hit, selling out in many post offices and quickly appearing for resale online.

"We wanted to print more but the bombing last night in Kyiv affected the work of the factory and we did not manage to print the necessary quantity," Ukrainian postal service Igor Smelyansky told AFP.

Just watching euro news now and didn't realise just how pro Putin Le Pen is. She states that backing Russia is beneficial to Europe and the US. Yeah, screw democracy, s'all about that cheap gas.

Sheer numbers mean nothing to Putin, he doesn't care whether 20 or 20 thousand die, he just wants his victory parade on the 9th.

Conscription won't help Russia hit that deadline. Even if he brings in conscription today, the logistics of rounding them up, training them, and getting them to the front will take longer than that.

Edit Actually, thinking about it, isn't the point that it lets them deploy existing conscripts outside the country? That could happen faster, but there's still big logistical issues behind bringing another 100,000 troops to battle.

Would just make things worse flooding the area with poorly trained forces. Friendly fire incidents/increased pressure on their already struggling logistics and command structures.

Her campaign is supposedly funded by Russian money.

Pretty sure there will be one hell of a comeback if they target a NATO convoy in a NATO country that just happens to be heading towards the Ukrainian border, because for all they know that convoy could be NATO strengthening it's Eastern border. So if that happened, Russia would seriously get their **** pushed in.

A hit inside NATO country would mean NATO pushes them out of Ukraine.

I doubt he escalates outside of Ukraine for the time being, just runs so counter to what he wants to achieve in the space of time he has to achieve it. Within Ukraine however...

She is a fascist authoritarian. She has softened her public message over the years in desperate attempts to get elected but she is the same person underneath. Like other such leaders they look up to Putin and see him as a natural ally. She is the Oswald Mosely of France. It would be a disaster for Europe and the EU if she was to get elected. Fortunately she won't.

They're on the rise sadly. At least the American's got rid of theirs, for now at least.

How much money you putting on it?

I certainly see some risk of LePen, is probably not high, but the risk is similar to the Bernie Bros in the US not voting for say Biden as their guy lost and enabling eg Trump.

Unfortunately the lack of actual far right politicians near any power for generations has meant that what they are and actually represent is easy to gloss over. Typically as said they are fascist and almost always authoritarian.
It would certainly strain some of the european cohesiveness if she was to be elected. However outside the headline stuff, much like our Brexiteer government the reality when they actually get power will be less fearful than those opposed would worry.

Typically in the UK the people who think she would be a good thing are the fairly extreme Brexiters, Trump supporters. They tend to like breaking things in the hope someone will put them back together in a way that suits them.

I seem to recall similar self assurances about Donald Trump and the pending result of the leave the EU referendum from the SC gang :) And by the way, the name was Mosley.

What are the odds on a re-election of Mr. Trump in 2024?
