Wall Street journal did an interesting video about computer chip production and how if Taiwan was invaded it would tip the world into a recession as we'd lose the supply from Taiwan and maybe China if we imposed sanctions.

It would make the current chip shortages look insignificant and while we are trying to encourage production to come back to the West it will take decades to do so.

Basically China would get the technical jump they want to be #1 and also be in a position to dictate based on technology (selling and restricting for political influence). Also for security Taiwan chips would be restricted from medium level security products such as telecoms switch gear.

Probably Stinger missiles. They've not been made in years and many would be approaching the end of their shelf life as well. Raytheon I think it was were looking into restarting production of them, but the components used are long since obsolete, so they need to basically re-desing the missiles.

Just checked- it was javelins. Economist article, showing figures, is here:

I know the US recently invested $52b in making their own 5nm & 7nm fabricators in the US, one of the plants will be run by TSCM. Meanwhile Taiwan are working on 2nm/3nm projects.. basically whoever had their fabricators are the worlds number 1 superpower.. because of AI and weaponry powered by the worlds best silicon chips.

However... All of Taiwan's fabricators are located along the coastlines of the country, an invasion would likely destroy them.. if they didn't the Taiwanese would destroy them themselves.

Those fabricators prevent a china invasion, and ensure American assistance, not to mention if Taiwan is lost the US would lose naval superiority in that region of the world.

Looks like Lyman next one to take the brunt

From the linked Tweet - "Wonder if the people who ordered him into Ukraine will ever be standing in the dock…" - I think that is likely to be a resounding no - they'd probably attempt to launch nukes before it came to that.

And people console themselves with the notion Putin is looking for an off-ramp.

I was listening to a podcast a couple of weeks ago with a Russia expert (can't remember who now) and he pointed out that Putin doesn't need an off ramp. Putin can say what ever he likes back in Russia and that will be the reality as far as media and the public are concerned, so the West looking to supply Putin with an off ramp is pointless, if he wants out he'll supply himself with one for the only place that matters to him, back in Russia.
