I watched the video posted on a news site.

The headline was confusing, maybe purposely so.

First off the headline said that a Russia boat rammed a Ukrainian boat.

Then the Ukrainian minister released a video of the incident.

But the video came from the boat that was ramming the other boat!

At first I was thinking how as this Ukrainian minister got ahold of a video that was being filmed on the Russia boat i.e. the boat the headline said rammed the other boat. Then the penny dropped and I realised it must have been the Ukrainian boat who did the ramming!

Or you assumption that the Ukrainian minister was releasing footage is incorrect, do you know for sure they weren’t just showing Russian footage?

You realise Russia haven't denied ramming the boat? They've only said that these boats made unauthorised passage through their seas and that their coastguard stopped them.

We should have listened to Churchill.

When he urged the Allies to re-arm the captured German soldiers on the Western Front and attack the Red Army to drive the Russians out of Central Europe?

That would have been an extremely bad idea as US and British Empire forces were sorely depleted and Russian forces were at an all-time peak.

The ancient romans had a rule when it comes to conspiracies: Cui Bono. Whatever theories one subscribes to the factual outcome is that Petro Poroshenko has parlayed this into getting the Martial Law declaration he wanted.

I ask you what state a country is in that a president seizes a border infraction with another nation as grounds to declare martial law over the population.

Here are the legal implications of Martial Law in the Ukraine that I could find. Bolding is mine:

Martial law in Ukraine means the following:

  1. In the event that martial law is introduced, able-bodied citizens have a labor duty for the purpose of performing work of a defensive nature.

  2. A curfew on the territory where martial law is imposed.

  3. A specific regime of entrance and exit.

  4. Verification of documents, examination of things, vehicles, and so forth.

  5. Martial law allows the state to control the activity of the media, cultural institutions, and printing houses.

  6. Natural persons and legal persons are obliged to provide space for quartering of military personnel should the need arise.

  7. The military command can ban the activity of parties and public organisations if they threaten security, territory, the independence of the country, or the life of citizens.

  8. It is impossible to dismiss the parliament or to announce the impeachment of the president in a state of martial law. This also applies to most ministers, judges, the prosecutor’s office, and local governments.

  9. Martial law will also allow to cancel diplomatic agreements with the enemy and to seize the property of the aggressor that is on the territory of Ukraine.

I mean he has a huge Russian black ops force in his country... He has some justification for this fascist act, though it's mostly because he's a step away from being an actual Nazi.

I don't think the Russians have a problem with it. They're claiming that the boats were deliberately disregarding agreed protocols - heading towards the bridge without allowing inspection of cargo and not sticking to agreed routes. Heading off the boat physically is what they consider the right course of action. Better, to their mind, than actually fully opening fire and trying to sink it or something.

That said, I'm also a little confused as to why the Ukranian minister is releasing footage from a Russian boat. Well, not so much the why - it plays to the Ukranian POV. But rather how this came about.

He is and the Nazis are a real and influential presence in the Ukraine. Even part of the regular army (Azov Battalion). I've seen video of Fascists literally standing over counsellors during a vote to make sure they vote the way they're told. It's very scary. I think a lot of people are conditioned through media growing up to see everything in terms of Good Guys and Bad Guys. And politicians use that to their advantage also. But it isn't true. Disliking Russia doesn't make the Ukraine "Good Guys", either.

Somewhat ironically because we'd been supplying them with tanks and aircraft, etc.

Been a number of instances of infrastructure sabotage and interdiction as well over the last few weeks - but a lot of contention whether it is the work of "fifth column" or manufactured to look like it (and I have no idea which - neither preferring one option over the other but I consider both feasible).

For interest, here are the provinces of the Ukraine where martial law has been declared. I don't know the region well-enough but I believe the Eastern parts of the Ukraine generally regarded the overthrow of the elected president Yanukovych in 2014 as illegitimate and are generally less pro-West. Whereas the pro-Western regions claimed electoral fraud. I note Donbass is included in the regions covered meaning the people there could be subjected to renewed conflict.

This is NOT a nice situation even because NATO is starting to get a wee bit nervous (or at least, that's what the media say)...
