Naive military strategy question here. Why have Russia not focussed on pushing down via Belarus to try and take Kyiv?

The US should start retaliating for these strikes on blatantly civilian targets. One extremely valuable asset for every missile that has had no legitimate target and any subsequent missile heading towards cities henceforth (including interceptions) to give physical affirmation to the allied threats about Russia's rhetoric ought to at least be considered.

I do not think so, from the west perspective it`s all about containment and keeping the all death and destruction in the Ukraine. Its horrible but the right thing to do. So aiding Ukraine to hit Orc city`s will only bring about more pain and suffering in the long term.

I think there was a lot of sabotage last time they tried that iirc.

They did, but were grossly unprepared for even limited resistance.
I'm just wondering if they may try again now that Ukraine is focussed in the East and towards Crimea.

Not to say they wouldn't be repelled or even have the resources and manpower needed, I just wouldn't be surprised if Putin threw some troops in as cannon fodder.

Man power/equipment - they initially attempted it with ~37K troops a mixture of light airborne and inexperienced infantry and withdrew. A city like Kyiv with even a moderately prepared defence with low 1000s of combatants could hold out quite a long time - would take into the 100s of thousands of soldiers to besiege and subdue (or a sustained campaign with massed artillery/carpet bombing).

No - their best chance was in February but they expected to waltz in like the Taliban did in Kabul. If they're struggling to take Bakhmut (even with their vaunted Wagner mercenaries for months), what result do you expect to happen for their capital?

Attacks still ongoing. Reports of multiple waves of cruise miles and suicide drones being sent to hit Ukrainian cities

Don't need to touch a single speck of dirt of Russian soil to bring this war to a close sooner, just bomb the **** out of their assets in Ukraine and let Ukraine advance freely.

Twenty thousand to take Kyiv is a bit less that the half million that Germany used in WWII, 25 infantry divisions and nine armoured divisions.
