I think there are longer range missiles that the HIMAR's can use but I fully understand the reluctance to hand them out, frankly i don't think Zelensky would pay any attention to a restriction of "Ukraine only targets" and would start striking areas over the border.

Ukraine would not want to ruin US support so I think they'd stick to whatever agreements are made personally. Those HIMARS are under careful observation by the US.

I can't believe how many appeasement tweets from what appear to be genuine Brits are on BBC News and Sky News twitter posts. Yes there are lots of bot posts but these appear to be real accounts and they are saying we should just let Russia take Ukraine and end this war. I'm beginning to know how those who witnessed the appeasement of Germany crowd in 1939 might have felt

I dare say if Russia gets targeted it will escalate very fast. That’s an all out war.
However Russia thinks it can’t be hit back, ukraine hits back and then russia will want to escalate to hit harder. China & india must be laughing at putin for being so petty. They will not want the nuclear option, so the most russia can do is long range missiles.

I suspect china and US have come to an agreement about weapons agailable vs levels of escalation.

The west must get back into higher levels of NATO arms manufacturing if this goes into the longer game.

Man power/equipment - they initially attempted it with ~37K troops a mixture of light airborne and inexperienced infantry and withdrew. A city like Kyiv with even a moderately prepared defence with low 1000s of combatants could hold out quite a long time - would take into the 100s of thousands of soldiers to besiege and subdue (or a sustained campaign with massed artillery/carpet bombing).
For historical reference the Soviets recaptured Kiev in WW2 with an army of over half a million men, probably inflated due to the number of defenders in the city but I would imagine you need a good number of personal to prevent a surrounding army from being attacked in the rear.

It's a nasty business, always has been, always will be. He almost certainly will end up using chemical weapons as a **** you to the West, naturally they will deny it in the most ridiculous ways possible.

The allied forces in Iraq, Afgan were hardly angels either but Russia always likes to take it 10 steps further, so some really horrible stuff is going to come, packed out markets bombed, buildings exploding, poisoning abound, all this after Russia is kicked out.

All the roads from Belarus as well as any pertinent bridges have long since been dismantled or mined along with deep defenses setup for any eventuality from that direction so won't be nearly as 'easy' as Russia had it if it happens.

What's Russia going to do? Nuke us for allowing their glorious leader to save face?

Pfft.

Russia is not Syria or Iran, if you think a blatant attack by nato on Russia will not warrant some sort of equivalent attack your living in cloud cuckoo land.

No nukes are needed...

I never mentioned NATO, but if we're talking about who has the bigger conventional stick... well I'd like to see Russia try. Also it's about time we got revenge for Salisbury.

Also with winter approaching you dont want to be going cross country in wet boggy terrain.

...and one mudsplash across the border from Lviv will see Poland mobilise.

Well the West keep on prodding don't they.

Taking out the gas pipe.
Taking out the crimea bridge.

Nobody in the west or Ukraine even wants a peace deal or negotiate anything. Lets just keep flooding Ukraine full of weapons.

We are heading for a complete disaster......And for what? two parts of Eastern Ukraine who mostly identify as Russia peed off because their elected government in 2014 was couped.
