They do have nice hats though, I had a original from just after the wall came down when we was going to east German night clubs for cheaper beer and much much easier woman. (My friend actually married one and still together by all accounts, proper stunner as well if memory serves but I obviously very very very drunk)

Tic-For-Tac attacks on Russian cities (especially against civilian targets) by Ukraine would play into Putin's hands and weaken western support for Ukraine. Although they could use them to take out Russian airbases that are housing bomber aircraft and long range tactical missiles.

If Russia bombs your infrastructure and you have the capability to reply with the same, then it's something you should at least warn you'll do.

Ukraine could send missiles at power infrastructure in Russia in reply, alternative is you just let Russia get on with it and stay on the back foot? They can't blame US weapons for it if Ukraine can develop their own.
 
Lets face it Russia will just lie anyway.

Like the mysterious rockets that do a 180 degree spin used near the nuclear power plant so they appear to have come from the Russian direction and not the Ukrainian one.

I think right now they are best sticking to pure military targets, plenty to go around. Maybe later hitting more stuff in Russia makes sense, but right now hitting any and all key Russian holdings in Ukraine makes more sense.

Mixture of stuff like LIDAR, sound processing and IR can detect them - someone I was at college with years ago had a pretty good prototype for their uni course, more for RC planes, etc. back then but would work against drones as well.

It apparently worked for Tito against the last hyperaggressive Russian dictator, Stalin. Assassins rather than bombs, but the same idea - stop doing it to me or I will do it to you and I'll be more effective at it.

The problem with that approach is that Ukraine's hands are tied by rules of engagement imposed on them by the rest of the world, especially by their suppliers. So in effect Russia can attack Ukraine but Ukraine can't attack Russia. It's a very lopsided war for that reason and I don't see how Ukraine can win it under those conditions. Even if they force Russia out of Ukraine entirely, Russia can (and will) continue to attack Ukraine from Russia. Putin doesn't care if every Ukrainian is killed and all civilisation in Ukraine is destroyed. That would just give Putin more lebensraum for Russians obedient to him while he steals Ukraine's resources.

It's a 75kg warhead though (so 165lbs), basically a cruise missile I presume.

For comparison:

JDAM bombs dropped by NATO fast jets are like 500-2000lbs

ATACMS a single one of which can be transported and fired by a HIMARS has a 268kg or 590lbs warhead.

It's not exactly going generate shock & awe, might alarm/frighten the civilian population a bit but really it's perhaps more useful for striking a HQ or say some aircraft out in the open at a far away Russian airbase.

I guess they could do some nice vandalism to Putin's black sea palace too if they fancied it. :D

True but I guess the alternative is Ukraine kick Russia out, until Russia holds 0% of Ukraine, then you have to ask what the point of continuing is?

At that point Ukraine could push into Russia if they really won't quit, as far fetched as this sounds right now.

Perhaps the best strategy is just to keep pummelling away at Russians in Ukraine, Russia isn't going to win by sending Cruise missiles at civilian targets and ignoring military ones.

It's not proximity detonation as the C-RAM uses impact detonation, what you're seeing after a 5-10sec delay is the time delayed self-destruct within each shell designed specifically to prevent damage from these falling back to earth.

There's a few videos from Iraq where you even see a C-RAM tracer being deflected by an impact with an incoming rocket. It's not enough to detonate it but enough to deflect it from landing in the "sensitive" areas (like accommodation etc) that the C-RAM's are set to defend.

Why wouldn't they? USA has said they wont supply long range missiles but nothing stopping them making their own.

We will see how smug the propaganda news channels are when missiles are smashing through their roofs
