I know we are delivering AMRAAM and the French are supplying them with Mistrel to go with the pledge of Iris -T from Germany, so one would assume a combination of manpads & the Nasams already in place....they just don#t have nearly anywhere near enough @Mart2912

Long thread by this guy on why Russia / Belarussia wont come from the north again, concludes with this

While it is most likely a feint - a lot of that reasoning didn't stop Russia's previous failed attempt aside from the Ukrainian side being more reinforced this time.

As per his point 2 (and3):

Russian military trains don't carry any heavy equipment - only trucks, petrol tankers and passenger cars with soldiers. 3) Russians are not being brought to the border with Ukraine like in January, but to training bases in northern Belarus. 4/

Some of Belarus's heavy equipment is stored up there - and they seem to be dolling a lot of it out to Russia at the moment according to reports - so instead of bringing their own it could be they will be "requisitioning" Belarus's.

Russia has no compunctions about sending newly mobilised troops into war and expecting them to utilise armour and equipment based on very little training and/or what the older ones might have learnt decades ago.

As per his point 15:

And last but not least. The Belarusian-Ukrainian border is almost entirely covered by the impassable Polesie marshes, the largest wetlands in Europe. The few sections along the roads where the Russians attacked in February have been turned by Ukrainians into the Maginot Line.

One of the indications that this war was likely going to be real was they had "exercises" involving building pontoon bridges, one in particular, through the area which is normally prohibitive to the movement of anything other than light forces - if they are going to do something from the north again an early indicator would probably be similar construction. And as someone said if we have a properly cold winter the ground will harden up making that area more passable - possibly something Russia is staging forces to see.

Does anyone know what they are using to shoot down the drones? Is it a similar system to Israel's "Iron dome"?

Mostly they are trying to shoot them down with small arms - 7.62mm machineguns and even AKs which have a rather low chance of success unfortunately - there was also some launches from MANPADS - looked like IGLAs but looked like they missed. I'd suspect they have a few Martlets but not seen evidence of them being used with this round of attacks.

Unfortunately the bigger air-defence stuff like S-300 systems, etc. either will have limited or no capability against these kind of drones or the ammo is best held for other targets.

EDIT: The drones they seem to be using - Shahed 136s are fairly large and slow - stuff like the Shilka, Tunguska and stuff like the newer German Gepard, etc. should really be able to deal with them quite handily.

Not sure why people think Israel will support Ukraine, they are awash with Russian citizens and Russian money .

Hopefully when Israel comes pleading for help we turn a blind eye towards thier cries.

After all , Iran is testing and perfecting its drones and rockets , they will be used against Israel soon enough.

Well then it's good that they don't need to directly target Russia because they can just target Iran instead. Also enhanced access to Mossad intel is fairly ambiguous especially if it concerns Iran and just so happens to hurt Russia in the process.

Several large explosions in Kyiv again this morning a few minutes ago - info sketchy - probably drones again.

3 Strikes against a power plant apparently - information still very vague.

Even though that’s a basic hard plate carrier, it’s still way too small for that bloke.

Worse still, it’s the old US desert camo pattern that sticks out like sore thumb against the greens and browns of Central Europe.

To add insult to injury, it appeared to be sized for US M16/M4 magazines, so using AK magazines with it is going to be fun.

Because if you get hit in the middle your chance of death goes up significantly. Same reason why you wear a helmet.

If that is in response to my post - I'm talking basic plate carrier + admin + ~3 mag versus some of these setups with tons of pouches and extra straps, etc.

Ahh

What you leave in your bigger pack you can live without well comfort wise, bandages, snacks, radio, more ammo. Granted by that pick its not optimal position maybe some of the ex infantry guys would know more than me, I had more home comforts in my time.
