To put the Russian losses into a bit of context, in the Russian Afghanistan war which lasted 9 years, they lost 15,000 troops with 30,000 wounded. Over the two Chechen wars, that lasted around 3-4 yrs in total they lost 14,000 men.
A year into the Ukranian conflict and they have lost upwards of 130,000 troops.
I appreciate its a totally different type of conflict with a much more difficult calibre of defense, but the difference is quite staggering and must be quite a shock to the upper echelons, no matter the bravado they put on.
