Unfortunately looks like the territorial/volunteer forces sent into Bakhmut a few days back have taken some losses - been 3 days of pretty much non-stop fighting apparently.

2nd flight in a row they've flown quite provocative flight paths - this one did an approach on St Petersburg before turning away and doing a close pass of Kaliningrad, previous one made sure they were seen opposite Sevastopol. Wonder what the motivation for it is.

Forcing the Russians to have QRA on standby, use time and resources

Seems a bit of a pointless "bluff" to keep the Russians on their toes tbh.

If the US was actually going to do something against Russia directly, they would wheel out their stealth aircraft, not a 60+ year old B52 that everyone can see coming.

It has been very rare for US or NATO combat aircraft to fly close enough to Russian air space to warrant a response over the last few decades, mostly unarmed intel aircraft like the Rivet Joints. Last few months they've been doing these missions with the B-52s but this is by far the most provocative yet. Probably a reminder to Putin as much as anything.

I'm pretty sure the US did a lot of long range B-52 patrols in the same way the Russians did with their Tu-95's, it was very tit for tat. It's just we only hear about the Russian bombers. This is unusual though you're right.

They used to, but toned it down a lot the last 20 years or so while the Russians kept on with their probing with the strategic bombers. Most of the patrols in recent years have been well away from Russian interests until this war kicked off.

I wonder what intel they have to send this kind of message

Something rarely seen, we see frequent images of Russian graves but rarely those of Ukrainians who have died defending their territory

I hope we will see the end of Yevgeny Prigozhin and Wagner Group soon after he asked for more ammunition then Kremlin cuts off Prigozhin and all Wagner Group offices access to all Russia government communication channels and revoked Prigozhin security clearances passes to all Russia government and military facilities.

He's not wrong if you pick the criteria suitably.

The richest country in europe has a terrible armed forces for its size and wealth and the power of the strongest militaries in europe is not in their army but the whole bundle and in two cases, actual nuclear weapons.

It's not a new complaint or statement to say that many countries in europe lean heavily on the ones with a meaningful military should anything happen and call it economic wisdom to not put more into defence.

What an absolute mess! :(

This approach may just accelerate the breakup of Russia.

This is the way. Economic warfare to breed population unrest plus the threat of conscription to brain drain/cause further unrest. Russias elite will find itself in a really sticky situation when they run out undesirable males and start having to use the Moscovites.

Russia does it to NATO airspace all the time, its just little bit of tit for tat
