Interesting piece on how Putin's lack of grasp of social media has lead him to underestimate Wagner's popularity. I've read elsewhere how Russians attribute Russia's victories in Ukraine to Wagner and their defeats to the army. If that's all true Wagner will have the support it needs to start a large scale civil war.

Indeed, I mean the Russian people are not blind, they've seen how the Wagner mercenaries have been brutally deployed to their own detriment in areas like Bakhmut. This would probably endear them to many in Russia considering that the only real "tangible" gains have been made by Wagner. I do hope all of the atrocities that Wagner have committed in Ukraine doesn't get lost in the noise though.

Wagner took 9 months to capture Bakhmut and 3 hours to capture Rostov.

Ending the war would give him more chance of staying in power.

Be interesting if he does topple Putin, would he execute him immediately or would he hand him over to The Hague to face war crimes? I suppose the latter will be very doubtful as I would imagine Wagner forces are also going to be charged with war crimes after all this is over.

It is good news for Ukraine either way - going to screw with Russia's logistics if they can't risk sending anything through Wagner controlled areas and the damage to the Crimean bridges this week has limited that option.

I don't think this is the end of the war, but a good news day in any case.
