Aside from the issues of not using them with proper support I can see why Russia is switching away from the T-90 - this kind of warfare needs a tank with much better real world manoeuvrability in these kind of situations so as to be able to (re)position to minimise exposure and/or so as to keep the toughest armour faced to the threat. And why is so many cases they simply use the T-90 (and other older tanks) statically.

Russians try to rely solely on kontact soft system bricks, which work against an rpg-7 they do nothing against Javelin/top down attack missiles and also don't work if the missile has a big warhead such as the wire guided atgm systems Ukraine has a lot of

Still need to deal with kinetic threats, and most hard kill ATGM systems still need a degree of manoeuvring for best effectiveness.
