Not sure if this article got posted on here but probably not.

Disturbing to read that the casualties are so bad that the average age of Ukrainian soldier is now supposedly 43. I expect this war will be over in 12 months at this rate. What a waste of young men.

Bloody Ukraine. They should never have invaded poor Russia.

Zelensky has refused to negotiate in what is an unwinnable position. He's been likened to Churchill in World War 2, but Britain was an island nation with the worlds largest Navy and an Empire to call on. Ukraine is fighting a country with many times it's man power and resources in the hopes the West funds it; which even if it did to the level him and a lot of people want, they still simply wouldn't have enough men. This is simply turning into the same painful lesson that was given to Nazi Germany, don't fight Russia in a war of attrition.

Negotiate what exactly?

Putin/Russian regime has shown he/they isn't interested in negotiations except those that might buy Russia time to game the situation on the battlefield, even a child should be able to comprehend that by now.

The painful lesson here is what happens when you get complacent, unprepared and par down your defence industry in the West.

With the disingenuous nature of his initial post about that article, I don’t even know why you bother anymore Rroff.

He always posts as if it’s Ukraine responsibility to call for peace and end the war lmao. Then he talks about all the poor young Ukrainian lives being lost, as if they have a choice when choosing to defend their country from a foreign invader. It’s always framed In a way he can either blame Ukraine or blame the west.

It’s totally disingenuous and completely transparent behaviour.

This is special even by your standards.

There were over 100 stets of negotiations from when they invaded in 2014 to the full invasion in 2022 and Russia didn't stick to anything agreed. Once again you show yourself as an appeaser to authoritarians.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba Thursday rejected any calls for talks with Russia amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Those who argue that Ukraine should negotiate with Russia now are either uninformed or misled, or they side with Russia and want Putin to take a pause before an even larger aggression,” Kuleba posted on X.

Kuleba said Ukraine “should not and will not fall into this trap.”

The Kremlin said Wednesday that it would engage in talks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his side will not participate in negotiations until Russia has withdrawn all of its troops from areas it occupies in Ukraine.

Kuleba said Thursday that Ukraine and Russia held 200 rounds of talks between 2014 and 2022, which included 20 cease-fire agreements, and that none of those actions prevented Russia from launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year.

The Black Sea really isn't Russia's biggest friend these days.

How is "soldier" defined? What's the methodology for the average calculation?

What is the average age of a Ràussian soldier? What is the average age of a British soldier? And so on...

Single unreferenced data points, with no context, really annoy me.

Whilst pragmatism just for survival is logical in one sense, i can also see why a country/a people would not do it.

I fail to see how it is a "painful lesson"? Ukraine did not choose to have Russia invade them and take their territory. They are simply trying to defend their country as much as possible from a hostile invading force.

The Russian Navy getting slapped silly by a neighbour who doesn't even have a navy is just funny.

What have they lost so far?

The Moskva - Black sea flagship
The Roston-on-Don - Sub
The Askold - Corvette that never even came into service after it's upgrade
A good number of landing craft

I personally love when people forget that Ukraine has mobilised what it can from it's populace of 18-60 year olds as if that won't skew the results older. That said Zelenskyy as well as his generals aren't dumb and there will be a limit between combat effectiveness and maintaining a functioning society.

Negotiate an end to the fighting, preferably with Russian withdrawal.

I don't think it's true that Russia isn't interested, Zelensky unreservedly said he wouldn't negotiate while Putin was in charge. Russia have negotiated *plenty* of treaties in the past. The US and Russia have loads of international treaties which Russia has stuck to, Russia also stuck to the grain deal. Russia at this stage almost certainly wants to end this war, you'd have to be stupid to think they currently expect to gain ground. No side is gaining ground, that's kind of the point.

The West hasn't been attacked though, we weren't necessarily wrong. Russia was never going to attack a NATO member, at least not directly in a way we'd need to a massive military response.
