i think i might have a problem with my ultima mobile, ive had it for 6 months now and ive noticed the temps are through the roof, i was playing crysis warhead and after 20mins play, my cpu temps were 102c and gpu 97c, what should i do?

Did these temperatures occur when you were gaming on a hard, clean surface?
Have you cleaned the vents since you have had it?

I really wouldn't try gaming on it until those temps come down below 80 for both the CPU and GPU.

I did notice the vents under the laptop are blocked by pieces of black plastic, is this correct, i have the laptop on a flat desk.

I too have the piece of black plastic covering the vents. However, it is designed for it to be there, and shouldn't be removed.

I would suggest that you get yourself a can of compressed air (from most DIY/Hardware stores) and give the vents a good blast to get rid of the dust.
I have removed the bottom cover to clean the vents out more thoroughly, however, I only suggest you do this if you are confident in your abilities to do so.

ok, ive done what you said, i brought air duster compressed air, and cleaned all vents, i took the back cover off and cleaned there also, i played crysis for 30mins and i got 95c for cpu and 92c gpu, a slight improvement!!

Quick question,

I have one of the original run of Ultima Mobiles (got it from OcUK back in September 2008) but with Windows 7 getting good press and the £30 student offer, I decided to go for the 64-bit version and upgrade my RAM to 4GB. Simple so far.

However, I blindly assumed without checking that the Ultima would have an opening on the undercarriage to get easy access to the RAM (as many laptops do these days). Of course, it doesn't. Am I right to assume then that I'm going to have to take the entire component cover off to access the RAM modules?

Cheers, thanks for that. Which of those would be suitable for an Ultima Mobile with a 9800M GTS? I can't see a driver for that card. Would I just use the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M Graphics driver for Windows 7 64 BIT?

I would just get the latest drivers directly from the Nvidia site - some people really rate the Dox drivers, but I tend to stick to official drivers

Any idea where I can find Windows 7 64-bit chipset drivers for the Intel PM45 + ICH9M that comes in the Ultima Mobile?

I have scoured the Intel website but in all honesty, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for :D. Chars.

Hi,

I brough this laptop back in Dec 2008. I was about to order a new soundcard and only just noticed I have a blanking plate instead of a expresscard slot on this laptop. I can't call up the original spec from my account so I can't confirm if it should have had one or not :(

Can anyone who purchased at a simular time confirm if they have an express slot please.

Thanks

Quite surprised to see OcUK have stopped selling these laptops, they are fantastic, still love mine.

I question for current owners. I'm looking for a case for mine, anyone have suggestions? I did previously use a rucksack with a laptop compartment but to be honest it was a bit naff and would prefer a laptop case jobby instead.
